Visiting employees

Finally, to draw on my o-wn research, in one abattoir I visited employees were working without the usual protective equipment designed to prevent them cutting themselves because this equipment was perceived by management as slo wing the pace of work and thus lowering productivity. [Pg.61]

An essential part of the on-site visit is the physical inspection of the toller facility—the walk-through. It offers the opportunity to confirm interview responses, observe work practices, interview employees, and note general housekeeping, soil contamination and safety issues. [Pg.35]

Acknowledgments The author would like to acknowledge the collaborations of Drs. David Williams, Ronald Ziolo and Valeri Krongauz (visiting scientist, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel) in addition to the contributions made by John VanDusen and Ronald Weagley, all employees at Xerox Webster Research Center. Finally the role of two students in this effort, Cheryl Hanzlik (APS Summer Intern, Univ. of Rochester) and Bonnie Buchalter (Cooperative Education Employee, Manhattan College) is acknowledged. [Pg.54]

Occupational asthma has adverse social and economic impacts both on the employee and the employer. In the United States, the cost of occupational asthma in 1996 was estimated to be 1.1 billion dollars which included costs such as hospital stays, physician visits, asthma medication, medical insurance administration, and lost earnings [71]. These costs are incurred by both employer and employee. In 1999, the economic cost of occupational asthma in the United States was reported to be 1.5 billion dollars [72],... [Pg.583]

Emil Hardegger was very proud of his two sons. When they grew up, they used to visit him in Toggenburg on week-ends and holidays. At first, they came with their girl-friends later, with their wives, and then, children. Ivar became a pharmaceutical wholesaler and married a bank employee, Marlys they have two sons, Raoul and Gilles. Beat, who received a doctorate in pharmacy at the ETH, married Janine, a pharmacy student. They opened a pharmacy on Oberengstringen near Zurich, and have two daughters, Prisca and Andrea. [Pg.2]

Later, when we checked the GIS system data and maps showing the plant and surrounding area, we noted that about one mile from the plant site was a large housing area, a brewery (with more than seven hundred employees), and a very large theme and historical park—visited by more than 1,500,000 people every summer. [Pg.103]

The only relevant information regarding neurological effects in humans exposed to 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine was found in an early study which reported that headache and dizziness were among several principal reasons why employees working with 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine in a chemical manufacturing plant visited the company medical clinic (Gerarde and Gerarde 1974). However, there is no conclusive evidence that these symptoms were caused specifically by 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine since there was exposure to other chemicals as well. No further information was provided. [Pg.35]

Occupational medical records should record and document occupationally related medical information of all types (e.g., medical examinations, visits to medical facilities [even for nonoccupational reasons], clinical laboratory data, injuries, pulmonary function tests, audiograms, etc.). The period of time that records must be retained is specified by law depending on the type of data and the health-related agent(s) of concern. In most cases, OSHA requires that information be retained for at least 30 years after the termination of employment (OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1020 Access to Employee Exposure and Medical Records). Medical records should be kept in compliance with the OSHA... [Pg.37]

While learning more about potential value-added pharmacy services, it is a good idea for business planners to speak with others about their ideas. Many pharmacists who have already developed value-added services will gladly share what they have learned. Visiting a setting where value-added pharmacy services are already in place not only provides evidence of how these services actually work but also will answer many questions pharmacists may have later in the planning process. Other pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy employees may have experienced value-added services in their prior practice experiences and may provide insights into how they work. Other health care professionals can provide feedback about additional services that they or their patients may need. Payers [e.g., in-... [Pg.421]

Also at the Tokyo meeting I met a Chinese chemist, who said that if I ever came to China, he would like to take me around. I sent him some Dylux paper, and in 1984 actually visited the Beijing Institute of Photographic Sciences. Several companies were hosting the foreign visitors. Canon invited me to a fine dinner, and I was impressed that the seven or eight Canon people there included employees at many levels—from research director to chemist. That was not a common practice in the democratic American industrial system. [Pg.231]

Thirty rail tank cars required new paint jobs and some of the employees cars required cosmetic repairs. Property damages for repainting rail cars and other cleanup totaled over 125,000 (US—1985). Although there were no serious injuries, a female employee in the parking lot suffered enough caustic droplets in her hair to require a visit to the beauty parlor. If this incident had occurred about 30 minutes later, the day shift would have been arriving and there would have been a potential for more injuries as the parking lot filled with activity. [Pg.66]

Regional Safety Representatives visit many micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees) [391]. This activity is made possible by high state provisions heavily supplemented by trade union contributions [392]. [Pg.132]

Merck would bring the employee and spouse to visit the new location, and if they didn t like it, they didn t have to move. [Pg.35]

Merck also tried to make it easier for employees to get to the new location. They went to extraordinary lengths with the workforce, Milt Moskowitz says. If you had to sell your home and move, they paid all the costs. They arranged trips to visit there. They consulted employees as to what kind of building they would like to work in. Because Whitehouse Station has basically no public transportation, Merck runs a van between there and Rahway... [Pg.237]

Only company representatives hosting the inspector should stay at the hotel to avoid accidental discussions being overheard — it is not unknown for inspectors to overhear conversations in the hotel bar Company administration staff should check that no company employees or suppliers are booked into the hotel for the duration of the visit. Make sure there are not too many company... [Pg.390]
