Vision production

The number of options for contact lens wearers has been transformed by innovative advances in the chemistry of the polymeric materials used to create these vision products. [Pg.221]

In the conventional vision, product quality is mainly based on external, nutritive and sensory properties and is strongly directed by traders and trends. Besides tastiness and ripeness, organic consumers expect products to have properties such as vitality and coherence , which are not easy to define and thus to explain and transfer. In the past, experimental parameters have been proposed to estimate vitality and coherence , but they were neither scientifically validated nor related to a validated quality concept with relation to human health. [Pg.53]

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) devices usually contain N phases as the liquid crystal material [71] and are used in vision products [72], e.g., privacy windows, projection displays [73], and direct view displays [74, 75]. Cholesteric liquid crystals have also been used [76]. All these devices relax back to the original ground state when the field is removed. Ideally such films consist of dfoplets of liquid crystal in a polymer matrix the reverse situation (reverse phase) consists of a liquid crystal continuum with polymer balls dispersed within it. The latter films are not desirable, because they do not provide reversible electrooptic effects. [Pg.1467]

Seven of the tools of quahty have been summarized (43). The first tool is a flow chart, used to help understand the organizational flow of a procedure or process. A flow chart should be constmcted with the fiiU participation of the people who do the work. Its principal benefit is to enable teams, such as problem-solving or productivity improvement teams, to reach a common vision of the work flow. Its use enables the improvement effort to begin with this common understanding. Figure 3 contains an example for manufacture of a polymeric material. [Pg.369]

With regard to choice and consumption of food, all human sensory perceptions are involved. Among them, vision is the most important one for selecting food and appreciating its quality. Color is an intrinsic property of food. A color change of food often is caused by a quality change. Consumers are attracted by the color of a food product. This imphes three main consequences for food producers ... [Pg.3]

Vitamin A (retinol) and retinoic acid are carotenoid oxidation compounds that are very important for human health. The main functions of retinoids relate to vision and cellular differentiation. With the exception of retinoids, it was only about 10 years ago that other carotenoid oxidation products were first thought to possibly exert biological effects in humans and were implicated in the prevention - or promotion of degenerative diseases. A review on this subject was recently published. ... [Pg.187]
