Research in vision has followed a relatively isolated path that is so common in science. Very few references are found in the vision literature to concepts brought over from other fields except in the popular field where the eye is frequently compared to a camera. When inter-disciplinarians have tried to contribute to the vision field, they have encountered massive resistance. (Rose 1976). 

Syrinx opened her eyes to look up at a sky-blue ceiling. The dark blobs around the edges of her vision field resolved into three terribly anxious faces bending over her.

Machine Vision Field concerned with developing systems that allow computers and other machines to recognize and interpret visual cues. 

Image correction In mai cases, the image is corrected by means of an image calibration () that compensates for the perspective view. Common image distortion techniques remap the image pixel information and a significant area of the vision field is discarded. 

Contrast C is the contrast of the luminances between the object Lo and its surroundings Ls C = (Lo - Ls)/Ls. With increasing contrast, visibility increases Adaptation luminance L,d, is the luminance to which the eye adapts its sensitivity. It corresponds to the luminance of the field of vision. With increasing adaptation luminance, visibility increases. 

Once I had decided on a career in chemistry, I was determined rather single-mindedly to make a success of it. I sometimes think about what would have happened had I chosen a different occupation or field. Having a rather competitive nature, I could probably have done reasonably well in a number of other areas. Certainly for some fields you must be born with a special talent. Musical talent, artistic ability, business acumen, leadership ability, and vision can be further developed. 

Color Vision Defects. Anomalous color vision is present, eg, if one of the three sets of cones is iaoperative (dichromacy) or defective (anomalous trichromacy). This affects 2—3% of the population with males mote prone because these defects reside on the X-chromosome, with one present ia males but two ia females. Eye specialists have standard tests for detecting these and other defects. Summaries of this whole field are available (6,9,22). 

Figure 9-1 is an example of what a modern level A ensemble ean look like. Remember, level A suits are fully eneapsulated. The ensemble would eome with gloves and boots ineluded. An overboot and overgloves would be added to provide extra proteetion and add extra working life to the ensemble. An SCBA is worn with the air paek unit fully within the ensemble, and the worker wears a full faeepieee. Notiee the field of vision that the worker enjoys with the ensemble shown. Were the ensemble in Figure 9-1 not fully eneapsulated at the sleeves, feet, or seams, it would not be eonsidered level A.

The operator acquires the target by means of a magnifying optical device. As soon as the missile enters his field of vision after launch, the operator commands it to his line of sight by means of a joy-stick. The signals are transmitted over wires trailed from the missile. Tracer flares are installed on the rear of the missile for visual reference. When installed in a helicopter or ship, the simple sighting device used for land vehicles is replaced by a special stabilized sight... 

DISTUR0ED SENSORY PERCEPTION VISUAL. The patient taking chloroquine may experience a number of visual disturbances, such as disturbed color vision, blurred vision, night blindness, diminished visual fields, or optic atrophy. The nurse questions die patient about visual disturbances.

Patients with severe disease progression may report loss of peripheral vision and may describe the presence of scotomata (blind spots) in their field of vision.
