Vessels, process ASME code

FRP vessels normally operate at low temperatures, The ASME Code, Section X, limits the temperature range between a minimum of -65°F and a maximum of 150°F. Also, because the modulus of elasticity is about 1 x 10 ksi, special care must be exercised in designing various components. Because of this and because different fabrication processes produce different strength vessels, the ASME Code states that in order for a given vessel to be adequate, a prototype must be cycled 100,000 times between zero and design pressure and then burst at a pressure not less than six times the design pressure. [Pg.50]

ASME Code Section VIII, Division 1 Most pressure vessels iisedin the process indiistiy in the United States are designed and constructed in accordance with Sec. TH, Division I (see Fig. 10-187). This division is divided into three subsections followed by appendixes. [Pg.1022]

Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers for General Piefineiy Seivices, API Standard 660, 4th ed., 1982, is published by the American Petroleum Institute to supplement both the TEMA Standards and the ASME Code. Many companies in the chemical and petroleum processing fields have their own standards to supplement these various requirements. The Jnterrelation.ships between Codes, Standards, and Customer Specifications for Proce.ss Heat Tran.sfer Equipment is a symposium volume which was edited by F. L. Rubin and pubhshed by ASME in December 1979. (See discussion of pressure-vessel codes in Sec. 6.)... [Pg.1065]

Safety must be an integral part of any oxidation process. Safety begins with sound equipment, such as ASME code vessels and continues through the operating and shut... [Pg.443]

With the expansion of the process industries, the need for a code that would be applicable to unfired vessels (roughly, every pressure-containing vessel that is not a boiler) was identified, which gave rise to the Section VIII of the ASME code. Today, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is composed of 12 sections ... [Pg.15]

Process pressure vessel cost. Process pressure vessels are always designed in accordance with the current ASME code. These major equipment items are always cylindrical metal shells capped with two elliptical heads, one on each end. Installation can be either vertical or horizontal. Vertical is generally a fractionation-type column with internal trays or packing, although the smaller-height vertical vessels (less than 15 ft) are mostly two-phase scrubber separators. The horizontal vessel is generally a two- or three-phase separation vessel. [Pg.321]

The bolting material for the reactor vessel closure head is fabricated from SA 540, B23 or B24, Class III material. This material conforms to the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix G and the intent of Regulatory Guide 1.65, "Materials and Inspections for Reactor Vessel Closure Studs." Nondestructive examination will be performed according to Subarticle NB-2580 of Section III of the ASME Code, during the manufacturing process. [Pg.101]

Figure 12.19 A typical safety relief valve, SRV, and rupture disc combination for a chemical process vessel. The rupture disk protects against the metal-to-metal seats on the SRV from seeping. The pressure gage lets you know if the rupture disk has popped or is leaking. The space between the rupture disk and SRV is required to be monitored by the ASME Code.
