An ASME 2 1 elliptical heads can ensure an increase in pressure resistance of die vessel. Fermenter jackets (e.g., half-pipe, diameter, or true type) should be constructed to sustain die vessel s rated pressure and, thus, enhance its strength. The construction material is type 316L stainless steel, which features an internal mechanical-polish finish of 2B-mill or 25-Roughness Average (Ra) depending on the nature of the fermentation. [Pg.862]

Surface areas of vessel elliptical heads can be estimated by 1.15 X cross-sectional area of v essel. [Pg.451]

Process pressure vessel cost. Process pressure vessels are always designed in accordance with the current ASME code. These major equipment items are always cylindrical metal shells capped with two elliptical heads, one on each end. Installation can be either vertical or horizontal. Vertical is generally a fractionation-type column with internal trays or packing, although the smaller-height vertical vessels (less than 15 ft) are mostly two-phase scrubber separators. The horizontal vessel is generally a two- or three-phase separation vessel. [Pg.321]

The height and the length numbers given in Figs. 8.5 and 8.6 are weld-seam-to-weld-seam measures for the full length of the cylindrical part of the vessel. This measure is also the measure between the weld seams of the two elliptical heads. [Pg.323]

Each pressure vessel is supplied with end caps. Figure 6.11 shows an end cap with an elliptical head with the end adaptor in place. This end cap would be placed at the feed end of the pressure vessel. Figure 6.12 shows an elliptical end cap with the thrust cone (see discussion below) for a side-entry pressure vessel. Figure 6.13 shows a standard end cap with thrust ring for an end-entry pressure vessel. Thrust cones/rings are used on the concentrate end of the pressure vessel. End caps are held in place with a snap ring, shown in Figure 6.14. [Pg.108]

Equations (9.11) to (9.13) must be solved iteratively. An equation solver (or spreadsheet) provides a convenient way to do this. Eirst, a Lightnin A-320 impeller is selected. (A 45° PBT could also have been a reasonable first choice.) Choose D = 28 in. so that DIT 0.4. The height of liquid is 72 in. and the volume including the elliptical head is 1162 USG. A single impeller is selected, since the HIT is 1.0. Assume a speed determine the Re and the crossover point for transitional flow (Equation (9.15)) and the mixing time 699. The trial-and-error solution using a spreadsheet is shown in Table 9.3. [Pg.638]

As illustration, we present the dynamic simulation of a flash in pressure driven mode. We consider a vertical cylindrical vessel of elliptical head shape with diameter of 1.5 m and height of 3 m. The liquid fraction is 0.5 and the residence time of 10 minutes. [Pg.123]

Equipment improvements of the coke drum include an overhead elliptical head instead of a spherical head, thus increasing the effective volume of the coke drum. The transition section between the skirt and shell connection uses a forged piece structure instead of overlay structure, thereby extending fatigue life. Alloy steel and cladding are used instead of carbon steel, thus improving corrosion resistance. [Pg.201]

When a nozzle opening and all its reinforcement fall within 0.8D of an elliptical head, the required thickness of the head for reinforcement purposes shall be equal to the thickness required for a seamless sphere of radius K(D) [1, Section UG-37(a)]. [Pg.74]

An adiabatic reactor consists of a cylindrical vessel with elliptical heads, with an inside diameter of 6.5 ft (78 in.) and a tangent-to-tangent length of 40 ft (480 in.). Gas enters the reactor at a pressure of 484 psia and 800°F. Exit conditions are 482 psia and 850°F. The vessel will be oriented in a horizontal position. Estimate the vessel thickness in inches, weight in pounds, and purchase cost in dollars for a CE cost index of 400. The vessel contains no internals and the gas is non-corrosive. The barometric pressure at the plant site is 14 psia. [Pg.531]
