Brief details are given of the use of LDPE and EVA foams in automotive and leisure applications. Examples mentioned are car boot mats and interior mats, vehicle trim, headlamp gaskets, and vibration absorbers, gym mats, luggage, boat hull cladding, sports wear and buoyancy aids. 

The source of the exposure either before or after the actual spray date appears to be related to some contact with the phe-noxys of which the crewmember was not aware. Possible avenues of re-exposure include wearing phenoxy contaminated clothing on days other than the planned spray day, i.e., gloves, boots, pants, shirts, or chaps. Workers may also have received some exposure from their phenoxy application equipment. This may occur if a worker has a spray operation scheduled and wants to clean or check his equipment in advance. Another potential source of exposure is the vehicles in which the workers ride. Often workers, pesticide concentrate, empty containers, and equipment are hauled in the same pick-up truck or van. 

In any rescue attempt it is essential that you protect yourself. It is a truism that dead heroes rescue no one. Do not, under any circumstance, rely on rubber boots, raincoats, rubber gloves, or ordinary wire cutters for protection. Above all, do not touch or allow your clothing to touch a wire, a victim, or a vehicle that is possibly energized.

Toyota has laimched eQ, in Japan and the United States in December 2012, but its 2010 promises of several thousand cars/year were significantly scaled back to just 100 fleet-oriented vehicles. This all-EV is based on Toyota s gas-powered iQ city car, with four seats and a range of up to 100 km (62 miles) on a single charge of its new 12 kWh Li-ion battery. Internal volume and boot size are also the same as those of the iQ city car, as the lithium-ion batteries are mounted imder the floor.

Complete body shells in plastics are not a feasible proposition due to the lack of torsional stiffness which is proportional to modulus (E) x thickness (t). Plastics materials have E-values 20 to 300 times less than steel (Table 15.6). Hence, plastics in the form of panels are considered more of a practical proposition, i.e. as secondary structures, for example bonnets and boot lids. The important parameter for panels is the flexural rigidity which is proportional to E x t. In this case the ratio of thickness of plastic to steel for equal flexural rigidity is more favourable at between 2.7 and 7. On this basis several plastics could become candidates as indicated in the table. It is a matter of judgement by the designer to what extent panels less rigid than steel will be technically satisfactory and acceptable to the vehicle users. Likewise, an assessment is required of toughness characteristics, impact, and puncture resistance (ref. 1).

Boots The Chemists (BTC) - the leading UK health and beauty retailer - has approached this problem by outsourcing specific Christmas merchandise deliveries. These deliveries are scheduled at different times of the day from normal deliveries. In this way, while not dealing with the issues created by unpredictable demand, store operations can apply appropriate resources to unload vehicles and put away directly to shelf or indirectly to stockroom. Historically, promotional events in BTC were a fairly hit and miss affair with hundreds of products being promoted within a four-week window. There was a high reliance on good luck for all the elements to come together prior to the start of the promotional period. Inevitably some products, display aids and show material arrived late. Store operations at the end of the supply chain then had to try and mount the promotions with what had been delivered. Consumers were dissatisfied with the result and sales were lost.
