Leisure applications

The hydrogenated materials have a higher maximum service temperature than the conventional SBS materials and, because of the absence of double bonds in the chain, better weathering properties. Known as SEBs these materials now find use in adhesives, sealants and roofing membrane compounds. These also find use in highly filled automotive acoustic barriers and in medical, sports and leisure applications. 

Brief details are given of the use of LDPE and EVA foams in automotive and leisure applications. Examples mentioned are car boot mats and interior mats, vehicle trim, headlamp gaskets, and vibration absorbers, gym mats, luggage, boat hull cladding, sports wear and buoyancy aids. 

PA is the oldest engineering resin. It offers outstanding mechanical performance, easy process-ability and good chemical resistance. It is being widely used in injection molded parts for automotive, appliances, sports and leisure applications. There is consequently a large number of blends based on PA, particularly the impact modified compositions. For example, the Zytel family of PA s include PA-6, PA-66 and PA-612, all of which are available in elastomer-modified versions, blended with ionomers, elastomers or fluorinated polymers. 

The development of such SOFC is promoted by a Swiss consortium led by ETH Zurich [23] and in Germany, a new start-up company named eZelleron presented micro tubular SOFC [24] which can be scaled from 1/5 (nominal/peak load) W for battery chargers for mobile phones etc., to 25/125 W for laptop computers and leisure applications and finally also by connecting high numbers of small cells to 75/375 W-systems. As advantages, the company advertises fast start-up times and fuel flexibility. 

In domestic and leisure applications, POM is used for parts in sanitary fittings, curtain hooks, buckles, clips, guide rollers for audio and video tape cassettes, cutlery baskets for dishwashers, kettles, tea and coffee makers, espresso machines, window and door mountings, inserts for dishwashers, parts for vacuum cleaners, pastille dispensers, parts for garden sprinkler systems and plumbing fittings.

Composite A composite material is one made up of more than one material. The term is usually used to describe thermoset (more commonly) or thermoplastic resins reinforced with high-modulus fibres. The result is a high-modulus, tough and light material that has many transport, mihtary and leisure applications. 

The main application sector by far is the building construction sector, which consumes more than two-thirds of all PVC. Then there are multiple applications in packaging, electrical electronics (EE), home and leisure, medical, automotive, industry. .. 

Home leisure sector applications consume 7% of the total for PVC o garden hoses... 

R- or S-glass with high mechanical performances, good fatigue resistance, high thermal and moisture behaviours. The principal applications relate to aeronautics, space, sports, leisure, armaments and antiballistics. 

The split into the various textile dyestuff application areas has, over recent years, seen a shift towards the two main outlets of disperse dyes for polyester and reactive dyes for cellulosics (mainly cotton), at the expense of directs and vat dyes for cotton, cationic dyes for acrylics and acid dyes for polyamide. The latter fibre has shown a comeback in recent years with the popularity of microfibres in sports and leisure wear. The position in 1998, with disperse dyes dominating in value terms, was as shown in Table 2.6. 

Adding up lists of numbers is always a huge amount of fun — or not. It depends on what you like to do with your leisure time, I suppose. When formulas are available to make arithmetic computations easier and more accurate, you jump at the chance to use those formulas.
