Vague presentations

Various kinds of potentials have been referred to in the course of this and the preceding chapter, and their interrelation is the subject of the present section. The chief problem is that certain types of potential differences are physically meaningful in the sense that they are operationally defined, whereas others that may be spoken of more vaguely are really conceptual in nature and may not be definable experimentally. 

Danek and his group have independently proposed a quite similar model, which they call the dissociation modeV - For this model Olteanu and Pavel have presented a versatile numerical method and its computing program. However, they calculated only the electrical conductivity or the molar conductivity of the mixtures, and the deviation of the internal mobilities of the constituting cations from the experimental data is consequently vague. 

Finally, an officially updated definition of the retardation factor, R, issued by lUPAC is important to the whole field of planar chromatography (the linear and the nonlinear TLC mode included). The importance of such a definition has two reasons. First, it is promoted by the growing access of planar chromatography users for densitometric evaluation of their chromatograms and second, by the vagueness of the present definition in the case of skewed concentration profiles with the samples developed under mass overload conditions. 

Of these 42 papers, 13 came from countries within the EU, eight from European coimtries outside the EU, and 12 from North America. He mentioned that the papers dealing with the use of CRMs did not make reference to any user guide such as ISO Guide 33 (1989) (see Section 1.2) and further that the comparison between the found results and the certified means and intervals are often presented in rather vague, or non statistical terms . 

Ionisation processes in IMS occur in the gas phase through chemical reactions between sample molecules and a reservoir of reactive ions, i.e. the reactant ions. Formation of product ions in IMS bears resemblance to the chemistry in both APCI-MS and ECD technologies. Much yet needs to be learned about the kinetics of proton transfers and the structures of protonated gas-phase ions. Parallels have been drawn between IMS and CI-MS [277]. However, there are essential differences in ion identities between IMS, APCI-MS and CI-MS (see ref. [278]). The limited availability of IMS-MS (or IMMS) instruments during the last 35 years has impeded development of a comprehensive model for APCI. At the present time, the underlying basis of APCI and other ion-molecule events that occur in IMS remains vague. Rival techniques are MS and GC-MS. There are vast differences in the principles of ion separation in MS versus IMS. 

This phrase is taken from a letter written by Charles Darwin (1871) that contains vague references to chemical evolution ... if we could conceive in some warm, little pond with all sorts of ammonia and phosphoric salts, light, heat, electricity etc. present that a proteine compound was chemically formed... . 

Abdominal pain is the most frequent symptom of PUD. The pain is often epigastric and described as burning but can present as vague discomfort, abdominal fullness, or cramping. A typical nocturnal pain may awaken patients from sleep, especially between 12 AM and 3 AM. 

Over time, the chronic pain presentation may change (e.g., sharp to dull, obvious to vague). 

The patient may have vague memory complaints initially, or the patient s significant other may report that the patient is "forgetful," Cognitive decline is gradual over the course of illness. Behavioral disturbances may be present in moderate stages. Loss of daily function is common in advanced stages. 

Chemical product design begins by identifying customer needs. These needs are often vague, qualitative product qualities. Yet particular specifications must be set for manufacturing the product. The background information for the needs of all of these projects is presented below ... 

Odour annoyance as such is seldom measured in a direct way. Usually, the amount of annoyance is inferred from odour concentration by some magic formula, in which also other factors like the frequency of occurrence and the duration of the annoyance, are involved. Since such formula s are not veiy good predictors of the annoyance experienced, some vague statements about the importance of the nature of the stimulus, given the context in which it is presented, are added. 

Apart from mechanistic aspects, we have also summarized the macroscopic transport behavior of some well-studied materials in a way that may contribute to a clearer view on the relevant transport coefficients and driving forces that govern the behavior of such electrolytes under fuel cell operating conditions (Section 4). This also comprises precise definitions of the different transport coefficients and the experimental techniques implemented in their determination providing a physicochemical rational behind vague terms such as cross over , which are frequently used by engineers in the fuel cell community. Again, most of the data presented in this section is for the prototypical materials however, trends for other types of materials are also presented. 

The investigative stop is predicated upon a reasonable suspicion, supported by articulable facts of past or present criminal activity, and based on aU of the circumstances. Probable cause is not required. Officers may stop, and briefly detain the person and their property. A pat down search of the person s outer clothing for weapons, to protect the officers and those in the immediate vicinity, may be conducted if the officer believes the person is armed and dangerous. Courts look to see if the good faith search was necessary and reasonable to insure the safety of others [40, 41]. Reasonable suspicion is more than a vague suspicion and is based on the totahty of the circumstances [42]. If probable cause is developed, the detention becomes an arrest. This doctrine has been appHed to vaHdate searches of airUne passengers. 

Patients with depression usually do not present initially to mental health professionals. Most visit their primary care physicians, complaining not of depressed mood but of other symptoms of depression. Fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, loss of interest in sex, muscle tension, body aches, and poor concentration are all commonly reported. These so-called masked presentations of depression may in part explain the documented failure of primary care physicians to diagnose depression reliably. This underscores the importance of considering depression in the differential diagnosis of physical complaints that appear vague or exaggerated. 

The betaine-type formula (6) has not been found to be acceptable for the general representation of meso-ionic heterocycles, but in view of the recent advocacy of the symbolism depicted in formula 7 some further comment is necessary. Although we originally used this symbolism in the representation of the sydnones, we subsequently recommended its replacement by 5 because this is in accord with current practice. Our present view is that the use of a special symbol (7) is not justified it is too vague to be useful, and in any case it can cause misunderstanding if formulas of type 8 with e=f are used as well as those of type 7 with e—f. The general formula 5 has much to commend it for discussion of type A and type B five-membered meso-ionic heterocycles and for the correlation of corresponding structural features of these two types (Tables I and II). 

The court first observed that the statute in question was badly written and vague. As for the plaintiff, It is not pretended that he carried his weapon secretly, but it is charged as a crime, that he had and kept it about his person, and elsewhere.
