Unnecessary risks

There are no objective tests which will enable one to tell at what point mishandling in storage took place. The packer who fails to keep a record of the quality and condition of his product as it is placed in storage, of the storage conditions, and of product condition as it is loaded for shipment is exposing himself to unnecessary risk. Without such records he may find himself unable to refute unjust or misdirected claims initiated by the buyer. 

Taking unnecessary risks may place you and other people in danger. However, see answer 27 above. 

The treatment staff must be aware of countertransference issues, and anticipate relapses and failures. For both patient and staff, it helps to define and accept limited goals. Appropriate security measures are necessary, so that staff can feel safe also, staff need to be educated about not taking unnecessary risks in handling these patients. Staff frustration has to be recognized and managed. 

This consists of high-risk aversion-low-risk perception consumers. The conservative segment is composed of cautious, risk-averse consumers who do not take any unnecessary risks. They can also be seen as being the silent majority in many ways (Miller, 1985).

As reviewed and emphasized in Chapter 3, the physical and the pharmacokinetic properties of various psychotropics, including the BZDs, often have clinically relevant implications. Clinical protocols and investigator information—detailed protocols for proposed clinical studies to assess whether the initial-phase trials will expose subjects to unnecessary risks. Also, information on the qualifications of clinical investigators—professionals (generally physicians) who oversee the administration of the experimental compound—to assess whether they are qualified to fulfill their clinical trial duties finally, commitments to obtain informed consent from the research subjects, to obtain review of the study by an IRB, and to adhere to the IND regulations.

You long ago put your life in reasonable order so there were no clear unnecessary risks. Why do you continue to read stories about murders in distant towns anyway, when you know that they frighten you. ... 

It seems an obvious truth that unnecessary risks should be avoided, but there is disagreement on what risks are truly unnecessary and, on looking closely at the matter, it is plain that many people habitually take risks in their daily and recreational life that it would be a misuse of words to describe as necessary.

The use of antimicrobial agents for relatively trivial infections encourages the selection of resistant organisms. Consequently, in the absence of evidence of a susceptible pathogen, antimicrobial use is irrational and may expose treated horses to unnecessary risks. 

The IND review is unique among the FDA s application review processes. In many respects, this process and the FDA s treatment of INDs represents a delicate balance between the federal government s responsibility to protect clinical trial subjects from unnecessary risks and its desire to avoid becoming an impediment to the advance of medical research. Clinical Review. The reviewing medical officer, who is generally a physician, evaluates the clinical protocols to ensure (1) that subjects will not be exposed to unreasonable or unnecessary risks during clinical triads and (2) that Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials (generally not submitted in the initial IND filing) are adequate in design to provide scientifically valid data.
