At the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center, there is a movement afoot to better align the educational experience with the challenges that lie ahead in buUding a safer and better health care system. One innovation is called CLARION,... [Pg.188]

The University of Minnesota Academic Health Center, although enthusiastic about the work and results of CLARION and its Interprofessional Education and Resource Center, has realized that it must do more. Work is currently under way on an interprofessional edncation model, grounded in patient safety as the overarching theme, with mastery of professional and interprofessional competencies as the ontcomes. Figure 8.1 represents the movement to collaborative, team-based preparation and continning education of health care professionals. [Pg.189]

Paul Boyer obtained his B.S. in chemistry in 1939 from Brigham Young University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1941 and 1943, both from the University of Wisconsin. Following a professorship at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Boyer moved to UCLA in 1963. He founded the Molecular Biology Institute at UCLA in 1965. To mention but a few of Dr. Boyer s numerous distinctions, he has been a Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the U.S.A., has received the Rose Award of the American Society of Biochemistry, and served as editor of the 18-volume treatise The Enzymes [Third Edition, Academic Press, New York, 1971-1990]. [Pg.269]

Brace Lester, Ph. D., has more than 20 years of research experience in biological and biomedical research working in both industry and academic environments. In conjunction with several other faculty members at the University of Minnesota, he founded Knowledge Frontiers, which specializes in technology assessment and scientific due diligence. Over the years. Dr. Lester has been involved in studying the role of G-proteins in the adhesion, motility and invasion of metastatic cancer cells. [Pg.238]

Research for this chapter was begun while I was a fellow at the Center for the Philosophy of Science at the University of Minnesota during the 1993-1994 academic year. Portions were completed while I was a fellow at the Oregon State University s Center for the Humanities. A version... [Pg.125]

I cannot find words to describe the debt I owe to all of my colleagues at the University of Minnesota for having created a stimulating atmosphere of academic excellence, the basic element of any long-lasting endeavor. [Pg.367]

An area of intensive research involves the interfacial aspects of diverse polymer systems. Multidisciplinary programs on the interfacial characteristics of polymers are in progress as various academic institutions e.g., Center for Interfacial Engineering at the University of Minnesota, NSF Center on Interfacial Science at Lehigh University). The projects under investigation involve the nature of interfacial adhesion, interdiffusion of diverse polymer chains, and adsorption of polymers from solution on polymer surfaces. A recent textbook on polymer blends and composites has several chapters dedicated to polymer surfaces and interfaces [Sperling, 1997]. [Pg.1188]

During the past century a number of well-known researchers performed their doctoral thesis independently or in absentia, and submitted it to a particular school for approval. This is for example the case of Warren McCabe who performed his doctoral work (1928) mostly at MIT but under the nominal direction of Eugene Leslie of Ae University of Michigan. Rutherford Aris did his Sc.D. work at the University of Minnesota but submitted to the University of London (1960). No professor is mentioned as an "academic advisor." A few years ago, Aris asked to be linked to Neal Amundson "as his student," a request that is only natural, since Amundson was his mentor in his early years at Minnesota. [Pg.30]

Milena Sterio is an Associate Professor of Law at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, where she specializes in international law, international human rights law, and international criminal law. Her work has been published in numerous academic journals, including the American University Law Review, the Connecticut Journal of International Law, and the Minnesota Journal of International Law. [Pg.210]
