Undergraduate studies

This text is intended to serve as an introduction for the study of advanced electrochemistry at electrodes and is aimed towards graduates and senior undergraduates studying materials and interfacial chemistry or those beginning research work in the field of electrochemistry. [Pg.406]

Pieter J. Milne was born in Caledon, South Africa in 1955. He completed his undergraduate studies in 1977. After working for 5 years as a pharmacist, he pursued his Masters and doctoral studies under the direction of Dr. L. M. Gerritsma and Professor D. W. Oliver, respectively. In 1994, he was appointed as a lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Port Elizabeth, now known as the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). He became head of the Department of Pharmacy in 2007 and is also the director of the Cyclic Peptide Research Unit (CPRU). [Pg.697]

The form of the essay you write for the Issue task of the Analytical Writing section might not be the traditional five-paragraph essay or another standard type of essay you learned how to write in your undergraduate studies. In fact, you have a lot of freedom in how you choose to present your writing. For example, you might do one or more of the following ... [Pg.48]

As the text is aimed at undergraduates studying core physical chemistry, only the basics of theoretical kinetics are given, but the fundamental concepts are clearly explained. More advanced reading is given in my book Fundamental Chemical Kinetics (see reading lists). [Pg.455]

You probably studied acid-base chemistry as part of your undergraduate studies. However, acids and bases play such a key role in medicine and physiology that we believe the subject merits another look. The central theme in acid-base chemistry is relatively simple. Acids donate hydrogen ions to bases. The uses of this reaction are myriad in variation and in application. By controlling the acid-base conditions, you can ensure that a medication stays in solution. If the acid content of blood changes by a tiny amount, the patient dies. The acidic and/or basic properties of amino acids located in the active site of an enzyme catalyze a staggering number of chemical transformations which are essential for life. [Pg.217]

I moved to UMBC after a number of years at other institutions following undergraduate study at Hampton University and graduate school at the University of Illinois. It was at Illinois that I became passionate about committing my life to increasing both the number of kids who wanted to go into math and science and the number of students who would excel in math and science. At Illinois I never saw anybody black do well at math, ever, and I never had a black professor. [Pg.86]

During her undergraduate studies, Willcock undertook research with Hardy on the oxidation of iodoform, initiated by radiation from radium. Of more significance, on her own she published a paper on the effects of radium on animal life — probably one of the first studies that showed the damaging effects of exposure to radioactive elements. [Pg.315]

Bill Johnson did his undergraduate studies at Amherst College, an institution that has spawned a number of chemical leaders. After finishing his doctoral work with Professor Louis Fieser at Harvard University in late 1939 and a brief postdoctoral stint... [Pg.289]

Alexis Perry conducted his undergraduate studies at the University of Glasgow, where he obtained his MSci in 2001. He joined the research group of Prof. Adam Nelson at the University of Leeds, where he developed methodology for the synthesis of C-linked azasaccharides and obtained his PhD in 2005. After a year of postdoctoral research into porphyrin-based molecular memory with Prof Maxwell Crossley (University of Sydney), he accepted a further postdoctoral position in the research group of Prof Richard Taylor at the University of York, where he is involved in the development of tandem reactions and their application in natural product synthesis. [Pg.556]

Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies, School of Chemistry, University of Bristol, UK... [Pg.914]

John Wesley Barnwell (1948-) resumed his undergraduate studies in 1972 after a three-year hiatus in the United States Army and a tour of Vietnam. Graduating from Oregon State University (Corvallis,... [Pg.237]
