The ketene—crotonaldehyde route through polyester with various modifications and improvements is reportedly practiced by Hoechst Celanese, Cheminova, Daicel, Ueno, Chisso, Nippon Gohsei, and Eastman Chemical Company. Differences in thein processes consist mosdy in the methods of polyester splitting and first-stage purification. Production of the potassium salt can be from finished sorbic acid or from a stream in the sorbic acid production route before the final drying step. Several patents on the process for producing sorbic acid and potassium sorbate from this route are given in the hterature. [Pg.283]

Some of the first transient infrared data on heterogeneous catalysis were gathered by Heyne and Tomkins in 1966 (16). The method has been advocated and used by Tamaru, who has recently reviewed his work since 1967 in this field (17). Dent and Kokes used the transient method in IR studies in 1970 (18). Since then the method has been applied to kinetic studies in particular by Ueno et al. (19, 20) and most recently by Savatsky and Bell (21). [Pg.5]

Ever since 1962, when Williams, Okamura, and their associates started to publish propagation rate-constants k+p for the cationic bulk polymerization of cyclo-pentadiene, isobutene, styrene, a-methylstyrene and isopropylvinyl ether by ionizing radiations, these constants have been accepted as the best, most likely, values for the k+p of unpaired cations in a medium of low-polarity, and those obtained subsequently by Stannett and his collaborators, using similar methods, enjoyed the same status, (The loci classici are Bates et al. (1962), Bonin et al. (1964), Taylor Williams (1969) and the three papers by Ueno et al. (1967), Hayashi et al. (1967) and Williams et al. (1967).)... [Pg.343]

Since vm vs, the fact that I13 is positive shows that km > ks, which is in agreement with the results obtained by the original authors by a slightly different method (Ueno et al. 1966). [Pg.383]

After Williams initial reports (Bonin etal., 1965 Hubman etal., 1966), the most detailed account of the methods used for determining kp+ is in the group of three papers resulting from the cooperation of Williams with Okamura s group in Kyoto (Ueno et al., 1967 Hayashi et al., 1967 Williams et al., 1967) in these the kp+ of styrene, a-methylstyrene and isobutyl vinyl ether were reported. The bulk polymerisation of styrene and of a-methylstyrene gave kp+ values of the same order of magnitude (ca. 106) and two orders of magnitude less than those for cyclopentadiene and isobutene the same is true for our kpi shown in Table 1. [Pg.536]

The cyclizations of halo acetals, introduced by Stork66 and Ueno,67 are among the most popular of all radical methods because the precursors are easy to prepare, the cyclizations are very rapid, and the products can be converted to a variety of different heterocycles. The conversion of (26) to (28 Scheme 17) illustrates the basic procedure.68 Standard bromoacetalization of an alcohol provides the precursor (27). After tin hydride cyclization and acidic oxidation, lactone (28) is formed in excellent yield with 97%... [Pg.792]

In 1976, Ueno and Okawara highlighted the fact that no oxidation of primary saturated alcohols to aldehydes via tin alkoxides had been reported in the literature and published a procedure for the selective oxidation of secondary alcohols.25 Interestingly, rather than performing the oxidation on pre-formed tin alkoxides, these researchers subjected a mixture of the diol and (Bu3Sn)20 in CH2C12 to the action of Br2. Regardless of the fact that no complete formation of tin alkoxides is secured and no HBr quencher is added, this method may provide useful yields of hydroxyketones during the selective oxidation of diols.26... [Pg.343]

Corminboeuf, Renaud and Schiesser explored the applicability of various quantum methods to the diastereoselective radical cyclization of several bromoacetals during the Ueno-Stork reaction (Scheme 10) [22]. It is interesting to note the performance of the various methods. All of the methods employed correctly predict the anomeric affect (transition states 61, 62 were calculated to lie some 20 kJ mol above 59, 60) and the observed cis stereochemistry [23]. However, only a handful of... [Pg.346]

A sediment core was sampled from the middle of Lake Shinji in 1994 and the radioactivity concentrations of Cs and Pb were analyzed. Details of the sampling and radioactivity measurement are described by Ueno et al., 1997 an interpretative method is described below (see Fig. 6). The depth profile of Cs in the lake bottom sediment was dated using a Pb profile. This dated profile of Cs was then assigned to each year by interpolation of the measured concentrations of Cs in a sediment core to estimate the annual sedimentation flux of Cs. The fallout records of Cs in the studied area (Shimane Prefecture) were obtained from the literature (Kasai et al., 1986 MRI, 1996 Yanase et al., unpublished data). A similar method of interpretation was adopted by McHenry et al. (1973) and was explained by Wise (1980). [Pg.558]
