From the time function F t) and the calculation of [IT], the values of G may be found. One way to calculate the G matrix is by a fast Fourier technique called the Cooley-Tukey method. It is based on an expression of the matrix as a product of q square matrices, where q is again related to N by = 2 . For large N, the number of matrix operations is greatly reduced by this procedure. In recent years, more advanced high-speed processors have been developed to carry out the fast Fourier transform. The calculation method is basically the same for both the discrete Fourier transform and the fast Fourier transform. The difference in the two methods lies in the use of certain relationships to minimize calculation time prior to performing a discrete Fourier transform. [Pg.564]

A 2 X 2 contingency table was used to evaluate the frequency of anomalies and resorptions within the fetal population and between litters. Body weight and body measurements were statistically analyzed by an Analysis of Variance and Tukey s test (13). In all cases, the level of significance was P < 0.05. [Pg.58]

Significantly different from control by an Analysis of Variance and Tukey s test (measurements) or the 2X2 contingency table (resorptions), P <0.05. [Pg.63]

So far as the author is aware, the first statement of the herbicidal action of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, made in the United States, was in a publication by Hamner and Tukey (14) in 1944. They sprayed 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid on bindweed and obtained a complete kill down to the root tips. At about the same time Hamner and Tukey (13) and Marth and Mitchell (24) demonstrated the effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid as a differential herbicide on lawns. All plants growing on the lawns (except the grasses) were destroyed with apparently no noticeable ill effect on the grasses. [Pg.245]

F exceeds the corresponding quantile of the F-distribution F a>V >V2 if at least one of the means differs significantly from the others. This global statement of variance analysis may be specified in the way to detect which of the mean(s) differ(s) from the others. This can be done by pairwise multiple comparisons (Tukey [1949] Games and Howell [1976] see Sachs [1992]). [Pg.110]

Sometimes the interpretation of analytical data does not need the deepest mathematical analysis but it is sufficient to get an impression on the structure of the data. Although the basic idea of graphical data interpretation is ancient (e.g., Brinton [1914]), the fundamentals of modern explorative data analysis (EDA) has been developed in the 1960s (Tukey [1962, 1977]). [Pg.268]

Next, the MAXCOV analyses were repeated with smoothed plots (using Tukey s 3RH twice procedure Tukey, 1977). The general shape of the taxonic plots did not change, but the peaks shifted and the base rate estimates lost their cohesion (SD =. 10). It is notable that smoothing had this effect. This would suggest that smoothing can aid in the interpretation of the curves, but the precise estimation of the taxon base rate and location of hitmaxes may be sacrificed. [Pg.167]

One-way-ANOVA tests were made to control the quality of the data. To achieve the proposed objectives, multiple comparison of means of the four groups was made by Tukey (p<0,05) test. The Dunnett (p<0,05) test was used to compare the means of three groups of mining sites with the control group (Seaman et al. 1991). Pearson correlation coefficients were also obtained to confirm the tests results. [Pg.320]

Comparing all the groups (Tukey test) by pairs it was concluded that Brancanes, Lombador and Monte dos Mestres are comparable for Cu and Zn in soils and Fe in leaves of the rock rose plants. None of these groups is comparable with Neves Corvo in what Cu, Zn and Fe is concerned, both in soils and plants. This is due to the present mine exploitation of these metals and the dispersion of newly exploited materials in the surrounding area. [Pg.320]
