Trunk

Finally, the evaluation can be performed by rolling back the tree, starting at the leaves, and working backwards towards the trunk of the tree. [Pg.180]

A relatively smooth region at the bottom of the J (top of photograph) is weld metal. The relatively rough surface that forms the trunk of the J is a fractured %-in. (1.9-cm) plate. [Pg.350]

The mean values of the resistance and reactance per phase are determined on at least two trunking units, including the joints, from a total length of 6 m. If the total length of the bus section is less than this, the values may be determined on the entire length of the bus system. [Pg.957]

Wood, then, is a foamed fibrous composite. Both the foam cells and the cellulose fibres in the cell wall are aligned predominantly along the grain of the wood (i.e. parallel to the axis of the trunk). Not surprisingly, wood is mechanically very anisotropic the properties along the grain are quite different from those across it. But if all woods are made of the same stuff, why do the properties range so widely from one sort of wood to another The differences between woods are primarily due to the differences in their relative densities (see Table 26.1). This we now examine more closely. [Pg.280]

Linalol yields a somewhat remarkable compound, by artificial oxidation which appears also to be formed naturally. This body is termed linalol monoxide, and has the formula CjoHjgO. It was first found in oil of linaloe by Schimmel Co., and it is probably to be explained by the oxidation of the essential oil on exposure to the air at the surface of the trunk of the tree. It has been prepared artificially by Prileshajeff by oxidising linalol with hydrated benzoyl peroxide. By further oxidation with the same reagent, he obtained linalol dioxide. [Pg.117]
