Trunking installations

The trunking installation must be treated as an exposed conductive part and be properly earthed in accordance with Regulation 411.3.1.1. Care must be taken to provide reliable earth continuity and an adequate earth fault current path by making all joints electrically and mechanically secure. 

A steel trunking installation would be suitable for the following type of installation ... 

An industrial building, for example, will require an electrical installation which incorporates flexibility and mechanical protection. This can be achieved by a conduit, tray or trunking installation. 

PVC insulated cables are usually drawn into an erected conduit installation or laid into an erected trunking installation. Table 5D of the On Site Guide only gives factors for conduits up to 32 mm in diameter, which would indicate that conduits larger than this are not in frequent or common use. Where a cable enclosure greater than 32 mm is required because of the number or size of the conductors, it is generally more economical and convenient to use trunking. 

Install local air exhaust pickup points at filter (e.g., elephant trunks)... 

Tank Farm An installation used by gathering and trunk pipeline companies, crude oil producers and terminal operators to store crude oil. 

Main instrument tray/ladder rack routes for cables and tubing and all tray/trunking branches (the identification numbers of the cables/tubes on each route and branch should be shown for installation purposes)... 

A special type of network architecture that deserves mention is the Attached Resource Computer Network (ARCNet). Developed in 1977, it was not based on any existing IEEE 802 model. However, ARCNet is important to mention because of its ties to IBM mainframe networks and also because of its popularity. Its popularity comes from its flexibility and price. It is flexible because its cabling uses large trunks and physical star configurations, so if a cable comes loose or is disconnected, the network will not fail. Additionally, since it used cheap, coaxial cable, networks could be installed fairly cheaply.

Fire water from hoses should be included in the storm water nmoff, if flooding would cause damage to installations and present a hazard during fire fighting operations. The storm-water main should be run to the battery limit and connected to the trunk sewer.

Exposed conductive parts are the metalwork of the electrical installation the conduit, trunking, metal boxes and equipment that make up the electrical installation.
