Truck manufacturing industry

OC-Pinene Manufacture. Industrially, a-pinene produced from the fractionation of sulfate turpentine can be used direcdy for most of its applications. The bulk price of technical-grade a-pinene, min 92%, was 1.32/kg in 1995 (45). The commercial product is shipped in tank cars, tank trucks, or deck tanks. 

QS 9000 was developed by Chrysler, Ford and General Motors and was adopted by a number of truck manufacturers. This standard was based on BS EN ISO 9000 and defined the essential quality requirements for suppliers of production parts, materials and services to the automotive industry. 

Also, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas standard at 1910.110(e)(2) requires that LP-Gas fueled forklifts comply with NFPA 505-1969, Standard for Type Designations, Areas of Use, Maintenance and Operation of Powered Industrial Trucks. Although the 1969 edition does not reference fire extinguishers, the 2006 edition addresses their use in Chapter 9, which states that where either the authority having jurisdiction or the end user requires an industrial truck to be equipped with a portable extinguisher, the location of the extinguisher must be in accordance with the truck manufacturer s recommendation. The NFPA standard also says that industrial trucks can only be equipped with portable extinguishers if operators have been trained in their safe operation and use. 

Reply With regard to compliance with 1910.178(a)(4), employers must seek written approval from powered industrial truck manufacturers when modifications and additions affect the capacity and safe operation. However, if no response or a negative response is received from the manufacturer, OSHA will accept a written approval of the modification/addition from a Qualified Registered Professional Engineer. A Qualified Registered Professional Engineer must perform a safety analysis and address any safety and/or structural issues contained in the manufacturer 39 s negative response... 

When picking up items with a powered industrial truck, the load must be centered on the forks and as close to the mast as possible to minimize the potential for the truck tipping or the load falling. Never overload a lift truck because it would be hard to control and could easily tip over. Do not place extra weight on the rear of a counterbalanced forklift to allow an overload. The load must be at the lowest position for traveling and the truck manufacturer s operational requirements must be followed. All stacked loads must be correctly piled and cross-tiered, where possible. Precautions also should be taken when stacking and storing material. 

Motive power lead-acid batteries are the power source used in every kind of electric vehicle from road transport to fork lift trucks in industry. Many manufacturers throughout the world supply these types of batteries and it would be impossible to review all their products. Instead, the products of one major UK-based international producer. Chloride Motive Power, are considered in some detail. The applications of these types of batteries are considered in Part 4. 

Users of powered industrial trucks shall comply with the recommendations set forth by the lift truck manufacturer regarding the care and use of the equipment. 

The lift-truck industry is competitive, with innovations being introduced frequently. Competent sales and service are available at low cost from most manufacturers or their dealers. Application sales engineering (a very worthwhile service) is generally supplied at no cost.

Unsaturated polyester resins based on maleic anhydride are widely used in coatings to manufacture boat hulls and truck caps and a variety of other uses where a smooth, weatherproof, hard-surfaced material is desired. Because these resin types are inherently brittle, hberglass is frequently added for reinforcement. Consumphon of unsaturated polyesters in the U.S. is well over a billion pounds per year, with about 50% going into construction and the marine industry. 

Many studies assume improvements in the gas mileage of cars and efficiency in the production of energy in power plants, in industrial applications and in home heating, lighting and other sectors. U.S. manufacturers could improve the average energy efficiency of cars and trucks. But, as America s fleet of older vehicles is replaced with newer cars with less pollution, C02 emissions may change very little or even increase since additional miles may be driven.
