The drinking water maximum contaminant level (MCL) set by the USEPA for altrazine is 0.003 mg/L and its Reference Dose (RfD) is 3.5 ingAcg-d. How many liters of water containing atrazine at its MCL would a person have to drink each day to e.xceed the RfD for this triazine herbicide ...

When rats were administered atrazine in drinking water at 0.1, 0.2, or 0.5 g/1 for 1 or 3 weeks, they excreted as the principal metabolite 2 -chloro-4-ethylamino-6-amino-s-triazine. The MOEs for water were calculated for each major-use state and for all major-use states combined. The calculation of the frequency distribution of triazine herbicide intake from water included the number of people using each community water supply system in each major-use state and the corresponding estimates of concentrations of the herbicide in the drinking water in these community water supply systems in each of the four seasons. 

This range of compounds consists of the many chemicals that are used to control pests worldwide. Target species include insect, animal, or plant species. Examples of the hundred or so pesticides that have been studied to determine their removal during drinking water treatment processes include -5-triazines (atrazine, simazine, cyanazine, propazine), lindane, DDT, 2, 4-D, atachlor, metolachlor, asulam, hymexazol, methomyl, imidacloprid, carbaryl, linuron, thiobencarb, and diquat. 

Multiple development was traditionally performed manually. It consists of repeated developments of a plate in the same direction with the same solvent over the same distance. The result is narrower bands and improved resolution and detection sensitivity. The Rf values become very precise and are adequate enough for identification. A variation of this method is automated multiple development (AMD) and shows promising future. The HPTLC/AMD method was used to monitor phenylureas, carbamates and triazines in drinking water. HPTLC can also be performed using polar modified stationary phases to separate pesticides in various foodstuffs such as triazines in corn, asparagus, tomatoes, grapes and potatoes [14].
