A goal of IFF research is to obtain a model that accurately describes the experimental results to be used as a predictive tool [6,11, 30-32]. In the next sections, we review the most recent mathematical and experimental IFF research by discussing the mathematical models developed and their characteristics (e.g., properties calculated, trends within the data, and theories involved) and by discussing the experiments performed (e.g., data obtained, trends within the data, and techniques used to obtain the information). [Pg.74]

Historical DataBase Subsystem We have discussed the use of on-hne databases. An historical database is built similar to an on-line database. Unlike their on-line counterparts, the information stored in a historical database is not normally accessed directly by other subsystems for process control and monitoring. Periodic reports and longterm trends are generated based on the archived data. The reports are often used for long-term planning and system performance evaluations such as statistical process (quality) control. The trends may be used to detect process drifts or to compare process variations at different times. [Pg.773]

Curing Study. Although the data on the mechanical properties of the uncured inks provide information that is useful in fabricating the inks, no explanation for the poor performance of BK-62 was found. As a result, experiments aimed at examining the cure behavior of the inks were conducted. Samples of the inks were cured on a heated 2 roller apparatus, and, after various curing times, small portions of ink were removed and characterized for oscillatory and short term steady flow viscosity. In view of the complexity of the oscillatory behavior, most of the emphasis is on the steady flow tests however, it is useful to examine the general trends exhibited in the oscillatory data. [Pg.159]

Retrospective review is conducted after the patient has received a medication, and the treatment is complete. Medical charts or computerized records are screened to identify patterns and trends. This may be the simplest type to perform, because large amounts of data can be reviewed quickly, and the outcomes are known. Information gained from large retrospective reviews is helpful for problem identification and initiating actions that will benefit future patients.
