As McKee pointed out in the transmittal letter of his compendium, he avoided using the term standards to show that no definite rules were being set. He explained this in a talk at a scientific conference several years later ... [Pg.113]

Also, the Pentagon did not contend that the withheld portions of the anthrax report are classihed (exemption 1), even though they are said to concern vulnerabilities and capabilities of the US Government to respond to another... attack. Rather, in an expansive interpretation of the law, it said that release of the redacted portions would make it possible to circumvent Department of Defense rules and practices. (exemption 2). On working flowsheets the detectors, transmitters, and controllers are identified individually by appropriate letters and serial numbers in circles. Control valves are identified by the letters CV- followed by a serial number. When the intent is to show only in general the kind of control system, no special symbol is used for detectors, but simply a point of contact of the signal line with the equipment or process line. Transmitters are devices that convert the measured variable into air pressure for pneumatic controllers or units appropriate for electrical controllers. Temperature, for instance, may be detected with thermocouples or electrical resistance or height of a liquid column or radiant flux, etc., but the controller can accept only pneumatic or electrical signals depending on its type. When the nature of the transmitter is clear, it may be represented by an encircled cross or left out entirely. For clarity, the flowsheet can include only the most essential information. In an actual design... [Pg.41]

Nearly every application has a required FDA transmittal form. Transmittal forms are primarily screening tools and are used to identify the information required and also provide administrative information for the application. Electronically generated forms may be used, provided the FDA approves the form prior to its initial use. A copy of FDA s approval letter should accompany the form the first time it is submitted. In some instances in which there are no transmittal forms, specific cover sheets or checklists are recommended. These are found within the guidance documents specific to the application type. [Pg.4]

Most Varian decoupling parameters start with the letter d to distinguish them from the transmitter parameters, which start with a t. Bruker uses a 1 (FI channel) to specify the transmitter channel and a 2 (F2 channel) to specify the decoupler channel. The following parameters can be examined by entering dg (Varian) or eda (Bruker) ... [Pg.149]

FDA offers the opportunity for the sponsor to make a disclaimer to each IND safety report. The letter of transmittal of the initial and any follow-up reports should state that the information submitted does not necessarily reflect a conclusion by the sponsor or FDA that the report or information constitutes... [Pg.83]

The purpose of a letter of transmittal is to refer to the original instructions or developments that have made the report necessary. The letter should be brief, but it can call the reader s attention to certain pertinent sections of the report or give definite results which are particularly important. The writer should express any personal opinions in the letter of transmittal rather than in the report itself. Personal pronouns and an informal business style of writing may be used. [Pg.457]

With flexible bundles of light transmitters, light can, for example, be transmitted around corners, and one can even look around corners. Light transmitters are used in medicine to illuminate or observe internal organs, in industry for rear lights on autos, and for the postmarking of postage stamps on letters and parcels, etc. [Pg.498]
