Until recently, the cerebellum was not considered to utilize DA as a neurotransmitter, and the DA present in the cerebellum was considered to serve only as a precursor for noradrenaline in afferent fibers supplied by the locus coeruleus. However, DA release and binding and dopaminergic innervation have been reported in the 1990s in the rodent cerebellum (Panagopoulos et al., 1991 Chrapusta et al., 1994), in which, as presented in the last part of this chapter, the presence of DA receptor subtypes has been repeatedly described. These findings motivated mapping studies based on tract tracing combined with TH immunohistochemistry in the rat (Ikai et al., 1992), and TH and DAT immunohistochemistry in the monkey (Melchitzky and Lewis, 2000). [Pg.44]

The IR and Raman spectra in Figure 3.6 were extracted from the images in Figure 3.5. These represent the fiber tracts (traces A and C) and the mesencephalon (traces B and D). The spectra contain more intense spectral contributions of lipids and cholesterol relative to the protein bands than the spectra of brain tumors in Figure 3.2. This is evident from the IR bands at 1060, 1234, 1382, 1467, 1740,... [Pg.130]

Partly (Chap. 14-19) initially deals with the problem of quantification of immunocy-tochemical data at light (Chap. 14) and electron microscopic (Chap. 15) levels. Then it describes a series of combined techniques in which immunocytochemistry is used together with tract-tracing techniques and electrophysiology (Chaps. 16 and 17) or genetic engineering procedures (Chaps. 18 and 19) in the study of live neurons. [Pg.482]
