Total Chrom

In the presence of a large excess of vinyl acetate and at high temperature and pressure, 2-hydroxybenzyl alcohol is forced into participation in a [4 + 2]-cycloaddition. The total yield of a mixture of chrom-2-ene and 2-acetoxychroman is around 40% (69BSF1715). It is clear that the chromene arises through the ready loss of acetic acid from the chroman. [Pg.764]

Pentafluorophenylhydrazones permit up to 0.1 ng of estrone to be determined with the ECD [381 ]. A hydroxyl group in position 3 is blocked by methylation with dimethyl sulphate and the reaction with pentafluorophenylhydrazine is performed in methanol in the presence of acetic acid. A column packed with 1% of XE-60 on Gas-Chrom Q at 205°C is suitable for the analysis. The determination of free estrone in blood plasma by this procedure provides good results provided that the measurement is corrected for the total recovery. [Pg.163]

PCB materials in field-collected bald eagle specimens have been identified utilizing combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques in conjunction with thin-layer chromatographic separations of standard materials as well as tissue extracts (26). A total of 19 PCB compounds were detected in the field samples. Analyses were performed employing a spiral glass gas chromatographic column, 9 ft X 0.25 inch o.d., packed with 1% SE-30 on 100/120 mesh Gas Chrom Q. Mass spectra of the major components of Aroclor 1254 PCB standard were presented in this report as well as relative retention data for the individual components. [Pg.147]

The oxidation of stream B using the same chrom la-alumina catalyst required a higher initial temperature (385 C) to achieve > 99 % total conversion. The catalyst also exhibited a steady deactivation, requiring an increase in the operating temperature from 385 °C to 415 CC over 130 days-on-stream to maintain the total conversion level above 99 %. The temperature increase to maintain a constant conversion for stream B oxidation is summarized inFigure 1. The catalyst lost activity primarily for the oxidation of benzene and trichloroethylene, however, the activity for other compounds remained high (above 99 %). The conversion of benzene was only 88-90 % and trichloroethylene was 95-97 %. The proportion of CO was 11 -13 % of the total CO, and... [Pg.448]

A ready-to-use kit (Merck, Germany), called Chrom Biodip Antibiotika, has recently become available. This was developed for special direct bioautographic detection. This kit contains a premixed culture medium, Bacillus subtilis spore suspension, nutrient medium, and MTT detection reagent. Generally, these methods require only heater and therefore it is possible to use this detection in a conventional chemical laboratory. The total determination time is 21 h. The main advantages of this test kit are (1) the test needs little laboratory time and cost, (2) the user does not need to maintain strains of bacteria for the test, and (3) the spore suspension can be used at any time. [Pg.285]

The extent of fluorescence polarization at a time t following a brief excitation pulse is directly related to the time dependent, ensemble averaged probability that an excitation resides on the chrom-ophore where it was created at t = 0 [4,6,7]. This probability, which will be designated G (t), depends strongly on the density and distribution of chromophores, and can be obtained from a theoretical analysis of the many body EET problem in the polymeric system. A fit of transient fluorescence depolarization data to a theoretical expression for G (t) provides parameter values that are directly related to chromophore distribution. G (t) and G (t) are portions of the total Green function for excitation transport. [Pg.497]
