Toluene flammability properties

(MCA) has pubUshed the Chemical Safety Data Sheet SD 63, which describes in detail procedures for safe handling of use of toluene (46). The Interstate Commerce Commission classifies toluene as a flammable Hquid. Accordingly, it must be packaged in authorized containers, and shipping must comply with ICC regulations. Properties related to safe handling are autoignition temperature, 536°C explosive limits, 1.27—7.0 vol % in air and flash point 4.4°C, closed cup.

Polyalumophenylsiloxane varnish is a solution of polyalumophenylsiloxane in a mixture of toluene and butanol. Its flammability, boiling point and inflammation point, as well as explosive limits of varnish vapours mixed with air, mostly depend on the properties of the solvents used. 

Properties Colorless liquid. Bp 119C, d 0.873 (20/ 20C), refr index 1.4153 (25C), flash p 80F (26.6C) (TCC). Miscible with water, ethanol, toluene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, hexane, and ether. Hazard Flammable, moderate fire risk. Toxic by ingestion and inhalation. 

Xylene (mixture of a-, m-, jg-dimethylbenzenes [CAS 1330-20-7]) Vapors irritating to eyes and respiratory tract. A CNS depressant. By analogy to toluene and benzene, may cause cardiac arrhythmias. May Injure kidneys. Limited evidence for adverse effects on fetal development in test animals at very high doses. See also p 357. too ppm 900 ppm 2 3 0 Colodess llguid or solid. Weak, somewhat sweet, aromatic odor. Irritant effects are adeguate warning properties. Vapor pressure is approximately 8 mm Hg at 20 C (68°F). Flammable. 

Chemically, OXSOL 2000 is alpha, alpha, alpha-trifluorotoluene, an HFC. OXSOL 2000 has a number of desirable properties for precision cleaning, electronics cleaning, aerosol applications, and wipe cleaning. It is a pure compound, with a relatively fast evaporation rate and toluene-like odor. In its pure form, OXSOL 2000 is a good replacement for hexane, toluene, and VM P naphtha where a rapid evaporation rate is desirable and a flammable solvent can be used safely. In addition, OXSOL 2000 can be blended with classical solvents like trichloroethylene yielding non-flammable, very fast evaporating compositions. 

Benzene. Benzene can damage bone marrow it causes various blood disorders, and its effects may lead to leukemia. Benzene is considered a serious carcinogenic hazard. It is absorbed rapidly through the skin and also poisons the liver and kidneys. In addition, benzene is flammable. Because of its toxicity and its carcinogenic properties, benzene should not be used in the laboratory you should use some less dangerous solvent instead. Toluene is considered a safer alternative solvent in procedures that specify benzene.
