As the title page indicates, the two of us, the authors, come from different and at the same time complementing environments. One of us (M.P.) has been with industry and the other (M.S.), with academia for most of our respective carriers. This gave rise to the unique style and flavor of the book hereby presented to the reader. 

It is important to realize that there is a delay of about six months between the time a journal article appears and the time its abstract is printed in Chemical Abstracts or Physics Abstracts. This is not surprising when you consider that CA presents abstracts from 14,000 journals published in 150 countries. In addition, there is a delay after an abstract volume is complete before the subject and substance indexes become available. Thus it is wise to check the most recent literature by scanning the title pages of likely journals. A convenient method for doing this is to scan through Current Contents Physical, Chemical, and Earth Sciences, a weekly compilation of the latest tables of contents for many journals. A list of specific journals of greatest interest to physical chemists is given in Appendix E. 

As you will see, it is always the name of the published volume which is italicized (or sometimes underlined or emboldened), whether it is a singleauthor book, an edited volume or a journal. References include the names of the authors in the order in which they appear on the title page the date of publication (a combination of) the title of the book, article or journal (as appropriate) the place of publication and the publisher. Although there may be some slight variations in punctuation conventions, these key details are always present in the final list of references. What is most important in referencing is consistency all your references must have a similar format. Look at the references in published works that you are reading to get a feel for how to do it. There are different conventions for web resources, and we give examples in Chapter 10. 

Michael Maier (ca. 1568-1622), whom John Read calls a musical alchemist, was a physician, philosopher, alchemist, and classical scholar. His extensive classical scholarship influenced his unification of alchemy and classical mythology. Figure 81 is the title page of the 1618 book Tripus Aureus (The Golden Tripod). For a training or management presentation video, you will need to cut and paste your stock tape. For the script, divide a column of paper into two columns labeled audio and visual. In the audio column, enter the words to be read. In the visual column, enter the tape counter reading (start and stop) of the stock videotape. For your final tape, you also will use text shots created in the studio (title page, points you want to emphasize, conclusions, etc.), studio shots of you, and shots of stiU photos. Then create the final product by blending tdl the pieces. Perhaps you can even add music ...

You can leverage your presentation effort by having something to send to interested individuals who could not attend. The handout connects you and your presentation to anyone who receives it. Accordingly, and as noted earlier, make your handout a stand alone document. That is, include on the title page, your name, affiliation, and contact information plus the name, location, sponsor, and date of the event at which you spoke. In other words, enable anyone who receives the handout, whether or not they were at the presentation, to easily contact you. 

After a short introduction to multibody systems and the mathematical formulation of the equations of motion, different numerical methods used to solve simulation tasks are presented. The presentation is supported by a simple model of a truck. This truck model will follow the reader from the title page to the appendix in various versions, specially adapted to the topics.

The first page of each chapter presents an index. A title-summary box for each section presents a short summary and memory jogger intended to be helpful for review. If you already know what the boxed terms mean and feel comfortable with them, don t bother to read the text section that follows—proceed until you find a heading you don t understand, and then read till you understand. The first rule (it may not really be the first rule, but it is a rule) is not to waste time reading things you already know. 

You will prepare a seven-transparency presentation on the topic What Are My Goals and Aspirations for the Next Five Years (You may change the title if you Uke.) For this exercise, write a one- to two-page, double-spaced, typewritten audience brief that identifies the motivations, patience level, and background of your target audience.
