The electrocatalytic behavior of olefins was studied by Zanta et al. (2000) at thermally prepared ruthenium-titanium- and iridium-titanium-dioxide-coated anodes. The aliphatic olefins were shown to be inactive in the region before oxygen evolution, while aromatic ones showed one or two oxidation peaks, and the catalytic activity seemed to be the same for both substrates. However, as for platinum anodes, voltammetric studies and FTIR analyses have also shown the formation of a polymeric film that blocks the surface of the electrode and decreases its activity. [Pg.36]

Spray painted (spray deposited) titanium dioxide coatings were sensitized [205] with chemically deposited cadmium selenide thin films the structural, optical, and pho-toelectrochemical characterization of these composite films indicate the importance of thermal treatments in improving the photocurrent quantum yields. Up to 400 °C, the effect of air annealing is to shift the onset of absorption to longer wavelengths and improve the photocurrent substantially. [Pg.12]

Photo-oxidative self-cleaning and antifogging effects of transparent titanium dioxide films has attracted considerable attention for the past decade [334, 335]. In order to understand the photo-induced hydrophilic conversion on titanium dioxide coatings in details, it is inevitably necessary to understand the relationship between the photo reaction and the surface crystal structure this can be done, for example, by an evaluation of the photo-induced hydrophilic conversion on the different crystal faces of rutile single crystals and also... [Pg.17]

Interference pigments n. Materials used as pigments, which depend on the interference of light for their color. They are generally made from platelets coated with a thin film of higher refractive index. For example, thin films of titanium dioxide coated on mica flakes are one type manufactured and used today. [Pg.530]

Thermolysis is used in the coating of glass and other surfaces with a film of titanium dioxide. When a lower alkoxide, eg, TYZOR TPT, vaporizes in a stream of dry air and is blown onto hot glass botdes above ca 500°C, a thin, transparent protective coating of Ti02 is deposited. [Pg.143]

Some of the chemicals mentioned above and others, such as chlorinated mbber or paraffin, antimony trioxide, calcium carbonate, calcium borate, pentaerythrithol, alumina trihydrate, titanium dioxide, and urea—melamine—formaldehyde resin, may be used to formulate fire retardant coatings. Many of these coatings are formulated in such a way that the films intumesce (expand) when exposed to fire, thus insulating the wood surface from further thermal exposure. Fire retardant coatings are mostly used for existing constmction. [Pg.329]

Quite recently (2001) titanium dioxide has been used to coat "self-cleaning" windows with a very thin film about 5 x 10-6 cm thick. The titanium dioxide acts as a catalyst for the decomposition of dust and grime by solar ultraviolet light. Probably more important, it lowers surface tension so that rain water "sheets down" the window, washing away dirt. [Pg.19]

Moisture Protection of SEPIFILM LP Water vapor transmission rates were measured on free films, including titanium dioxide (Figure 27). SEPIFILM LP shows significantly lower moisture permeability compared to regular or PVA-based coating formulations. Removal of titanium dioxide (SEPIFILM LP clear) improves moisture resistance. [Pg.1022]
