Tires shredder

All you need for 10 tire shredders is two boxes of mower blades used for hay, wheat, oats, etc., bought at any farm supply store. TlMy come in Iwxes of 10 for under tS.OO. Two boxes will give you 10 shredders which, after braxing, shouldn t cost more than about 125.00. [Pg.92]

There are basically two types of tire shredding equipment in conunercial use, the solid cutter shredder and the replaceable cutter tire shredder [18,19]. Both of these machines shear a whole tire to produce a chip with a fixed size in one dimension, but to control the oth chip dimension, additicmal passes through the chipper may be required. [Pg.237]

The second type of tire chipper is the replaceable cutter tire shredder. This is a low-speed shear shredder specifically designed for tires. The principle cutting feature is shown in Hgure 6.6. Note the addition of star-shaped feed rolls that force the individual tires, one at a tinK, into the cutting zone. As the tires are fed into the cutting zone, the cutters engage them with a true shearing action. [Pg.238]

The process is used on petroleum sludges, used tires, biomedical waste, automobile shredder residues, bark residues and municipal solid wastes. It is limited to treating organic wastes and contaminated soil. For soil contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), vacuum pyrolysis cannot destroy the PCBs but will concentrate them in the pyrolytic oils. When A-R is applied, the applicator usually obtains crumb rubber from the shredder company that is geographically closest to the project site. Since there are a limited number of crumb rubber shredders, scrap tires may not originate from the community buying the A-R application. If, for example, a city or state buying an A-R application is located outside the 200 to 300 mile radius of the crumb producer who is providing the crumb rubber, it is likely that their own scrap tire supply is not being consumed. [Pg.45]

When asphalt-rubber (wet process) is applied to pavements, the tires come from the neighborhood of the nearest shredding/grinding facility. Because A-R is a patented material, there are only a limited number of shredding companies that supply rubber for this process. Some state government officials have indicated concern about whether waste tires from their own state can be used, as opposed to those tires near the present shredders, which might be located in another state. [Pg.76]

Energy required to produce smaller sizes of rubber pieces increases exponentially.7 For example, about 40 Btu s are required to produce one pound of 6-inch TOF, while 750 Btu s are required to produce a pound of 1-inch TDF.7 From a general cost perspective, 2-inch TDF, wire-in TDF, can cost as little as 20/ton, whereas crumb rubber (wire-free, from 20-30 mesh) averages 160/ton.7 Capital costs, of course, vary according to capacity. A shredder that can chip 100 tires/hr into 2-inch TDF costs about 50,000 larger machines (1000 tires/hr capacity) can cost 500,000.7... [Pg.137]
