Transferring these properties to composition rules, we are able to specify both safety and liveness properties. Safety properties can be specified (1) by means of state composition rules in terms of forbidden state combinations of the parallel execution and (2) by means of event composition automata by adding further time constraints to time guards of selected transitions. Liveness properties in turn can be specified through state composition rules and event composition automata by adding further time constraints to location invariants of location combinations of the parallel execution. 

In the resulting automaton the additional time guards, clock resets and location invariants of the event composition automaton are added to the composed locations and synchronized transitions as defined in the following. 

A guarded hot-plate method, ASTM D1518, is used to measure the rate of heat transfer over time from a warm metal plate. The fabric is placed on the constant temperature plate and covered by a second metal plate. ICP-SFMS (Thermo Finnigan, Flement) with cold vapour generation was developed with a guard electrode and a gold amalgamation device using an Au-sorbent for sample pre-concentration to improve the sensitivity. Instrumental parameters of ICP-SFMS such as take-up time, heating temperature of Au-sorbent, additional gas flow, and sample gas flow were optimized. These can be converted to their sodium salts by precipitation below 30° with aqueous 25% NaOH. The blowdown valves on the boilers were operated by a special key, which had a lug on it so that it could not be removed when the valve was open. It was therefore impossible, in theory, for two blowdown valves to be open at the same time. However, the boiler fitter kept and jealously guarded a private key w ithout a lug and had used this one to open the blowdown valve on the boiler that was under repair. He forgot to tell the process foreman what he had done or to close the valve. The presence of this key would appear to have been of little moment as long as the correct procedure of complete isolation was maintained, but as soon as it was departed from, the additional key became a menace, which eventually enabled the present tragedy to occur, the accident report said. 

A more justifiable reason for the added cost and analysis time that a guard column brings is to avoid a problem with adsorption of sample matrix components on the stationary phase of the analytical GPC columns. In many industrial laboratories, the usual GPC experiment deals with fairly well-controlled sample matrices that may not have absorbable components and therefore rarely require a guard column. In situations where slow adsorption of matrix components may occur on GPC columns, it may make better economic sense to periodically replace the first column of a set. Nevertheless, in... 

The employment of full-time security staff either in-house personnel or contracted out to a professional guarding company (preferably one that is a member of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Manned Services Inspectorate) can make a significant contribution to overall security. Consideration should be given to the range of duties to be performed by security staff, their location, and how they will interface with other security measures and external agencies.
