Tie-in Points

The first three methods of optimization are achieved by closed-loop process control and can be superimposed upon the overall boiler control system shown in Figure 2.1. The tie-in points for these optimization strategies are also shown in that figure. The benefits of the last two methods (efficiency and accountability) are not obtained in the form of closed-loop control signals, but they do contribute to better maintenance and better understanding of heat losses and equipment potentials. 

A tie-in point is the place in the existing piping or a flange on equipment where new piping needs to be connected. 

Are there multiple tie-in points to other systems or units For example, one company chooses to use three or more tie-in points for a change or modification that affects the process safety information to indicate that a complex/long form PSSR approach will be used. 

To avoid common failure incidents, prime mover and backup fire pumps preferably should not be located immediately next to each other and ideally should be housed at separate locations at the facility. They should feed into the firewater distribution at points that are as remote as practical from each other. In practical applications, except for offshore installations, most small to medium sized facilities contain a single firewater storage tank, requiring the siting of all firewater pumps close to it. Even in these circumstances it may be wise to segregate the main and backup fire pumps from each other with tie-in points to the firewater distribution loops. This mostly depends on the hazard level of the facility and... 

When fabrication work is being carried out on an existing facility, it is often convenient to prepare a list of all the tie-in points that will be needed, then to shut the process down so that all those tie-ins can be put in place at one time. Then, as new pieces of equipment and piping arrive on site, they can be installed without interrupting ongoing operations. Figure 3.3 shows some details as to how such a tie-in is made. 

Kosbash There is a further point which ties in with the previous discussion. This is very far from the fibroblasts in culture and the individual cells. The correspondence theory of truth in the stipulated sense of the previous chapter is incompatible with this account on two counts. The correspondence theory in the stipulated sense is a Tarskian theory with reference understood as a non-epistemic relation to entities that are mind-independent in the sense of (MR1). The present account considers reference an epistemic relation, since it hinges on justification conditions, which are clearly epistemic. It also fits badly with the idea that the entities words refer to are ontologically independent of the human mind. The disagreement concerns both the nature of the reference relation but also one of the relata. This latter point may be less clear, since the three-step recipe does not say anything about the ontological status of the entities we refer to. So why does it naturally tie in with (IR1) rather than with (MR1) ... 

Scoring evaluation The student has a strong opinion on this issue and makes his or her points quite clear in an introduction, body, and conclusion format.
