Thickening analysis

Torque Rating The choice of torque rating has been discussed earlier. Torque is a function of such factors as quantity and quality of underflow (therefore, of such parameters as particle characteristics and flocculant dosage that affect underflow character), unit area, and rake speed but, in the final analysis, torque must be specified on the basis of experience modified by these factors. Unless one is experienced in a given apphcation, it is wise to consult a thickener or clarifier manufacturer. [Pg.1691]

Oxidation of lubricating oil can result in lacquer deposits, metal corrosion, or thickening of the oil. Most lubricants contain oxidation inhibitors. However when additives are used up, oxidation of the oil itself begins. The quantity of oxidation in an oil sample is measured by differential infrared analysis. [Pg.801]

Analytical A proc is described for the quant titrimetric analysis of TeNMe in nitric acid (Ref 35)s and a spectrophotometric method is described in Ref 41 for the detn of small amts of TeNMe in air and w Critical Diameter. The crit diam for deton propagation of TeNMe thickened with poly-(methyl acrylate) and loaded with up to 75% inert solids was detd and found to decrease with increasing solids loading. It was postulated that the solids acted as reaction foci ahead of the deton front (Ref 45)... [Pg.101]

Oscillatory shear experiments are the preferred method to study the rheological behavior due to particle interactions because they directly probe these interactions without the influence of the external flow field as encountered in steady shear experiments. However, phenomena that arise due to the external flow, such as shear thickening, can only be investigated in steady shear experiments. Additionally, the analysis is complicated by the different response of the material to shear and extensional flow. For example, very strong deviations from Trouton s ratio (extensional viscosity is three times the shear viscosity) were found for suspensions [113]. [Pg.207]

As required by Directive 89/107/EEC, criteria of purity have been drawn up for all the listed food additives (with a couple of exceptions). Purity criteria for all the permitted sweeteners have been prescribed in Directive 95/31/EC,6 as amended, and criteria for all the permitted colours are contained in Directive 95/ 45/EC,7 as amended. Directives that prescribe purity criteria for all the additives authorised under Directive 95/2/EC have been drawn up in stages. Directive 96/ 77/EC8 containing purity criteria for antioxidants and preservatives is amended by Directives 98/86/EC which lays down purity criteria for emulsifiers, stabilisers and thickeners and 2000/63/EC which contains purity criteria for most additives numbered E 500 and above, and for certain other additives not covered in the earlier directives. Purity criteria for most of the few remaining permitted miscellaneous additives are contained in Directive 2001/30/EC however, purity criteria for E 1201 polyvinylpyrrolidone and E 1202 polyvinylpolypyrrolidone are still being considered by the Scientific Committee on Food. Some methods of analysis for verifying prescribed purity criteria have been developed at EU level these are contained in Directive 81/712/EEC.9... [Pg.22]

The molecules produced by living organisms, natural products, are employed in our lives as flavors, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, nontraditional medicines, dyes, and pesticides, among other uses. The products of chemistry are employed in our food as preservatives, artificial sweeteners, thickeners, dyes, taste enhancers, flavors, and textnring agents. Chemistry creates such key materials as plastics, ceramics, fabrics, alloys, semiconductors, liquid crystals, optical media, and biomaterials. Chemistry also does many kinds of analysis and these include measurements of air quahty, water quality, food safety, and the search for substances that compromise the enviromnent or workplace safety. [Pg.33]

Ten of 12 workers experienced acute irritant contact dermatitis of the hands after 2 days of direct contact. In the most severe case, a woman with no previous skin problems, who wore latex gloves intermittently, had painful swelling of the fingers of both hands with redness and vesicles on the palms. The affected skin later became thickened and showed a brownish discoloration. Another worker noticed small vesicles on the forehead, probably due to scratching with contaminated fingers. All cutaneous reactions cleared within 3 weeks of termination of exposure. Gas chromatograph analysis of the NMP used at the factory did not reveal any contaminating compounds. [Pg.493]

Sample preparation for saccharin analysis by HPLC can be performed as indicated in Section I.C. Methods for extraction have also been described for desserts and sweets containing food thickeners (38) soy sauce, orange juice, and yogurt (60) chewing gum (17,39), and different food samples (42). Aminobenzoic acid, theophyllin, sodium fumarate, and adenine sulfate have been used as internal standards (17,31,39,44). [Pg.529]
