Even if the company does not operate a full performance related pay system, R D Managers can still apply the principles used in performance management to good effect and hence get the best out of their staff. However, to be really effective, performance management must in some way be connected, however loosely, to a system of reward.

Where technology is central to competitive success, such a breakdown in the management of technology can become a serious threat to long-term corporate performance. The use of the computer in the design of chemical processes requires a framework for depiction and computation completely different from that of traditional CAD/CAM appHcations. A PHA has heen performed for new facilities. The management of change documentation packages and referenced documents should indicate when a process hazard analysis was performed for the modification or new facility. The PSSR Team should verify all of the PHA recommendations have been implemented or otherwise resolved before the toll process can be judged ready to operate. 

An overall review of the management of change documentation package should be performed to ensure documentation update items (including material safety data sheets) are addressed and that PHA action items are complete. Any eontraetor being eonsidered for an award must have a history of performing work in a safe manner. The authors believe that if a eontraetor has performed work safely in the past, it is likely that the management of the eontraetor will believe in and praetiee safe work performanee as part of its present and future business philosophy.

Bone disease is a common manifestation of multiple myeloma. Bisphosphonates should be initiated in symptomatic patients with bone lesions to slow osteopenia and reduce the fracture risk associated with the disease. Pamidronate and zolendronic acid have equivalent efficacy in the management of osteolytic lesions, but because of relative ease of administration, zolendronic acid is used most frequently.43 The use of zolendronic acid decreases pain and bone-related complications and improves quality of life.
