The ICC Business Charter for Sustainable Development

The ICC Business Charter for Sustainable Development (1991) [11] is a proposal from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to help businesses in improving environmental performance. The Charter was one of the first thorough publications on environmental management issues. It strongly reflects the growing importance of the concept of sustainability to businesses. The

3 Process of improvement continuous improvement of policies, programmes and practices taking into account technical developments, scientific understanding, consumer needs and community expectations, with legal regulations as a starting point. 

4 Employee education educate, train and motivate employees to act with environmental responsibility. 

5 Prior assessment assess envinmmental impacts before starting new activities and discontinuing or selling activities.
