Inhaled assessment, prior

In some cases the available dose-response data will have originated from studies by one route of exposure (say, inhalation), but the population of interest is or might be exposed by other routes, say the oral one. Completion of a risk assessment prior to the development of new oral data will require a biologically justifiable method for extrapolating results from one route of exposure to another. 

CNTs are of importance as useful bio-nanomaterials for pharmaceutical applications and biomedical engineering. However, despite the contribution of CNTs to bio-nanomaterials for pharmaceutical applications, the potential risks of CNTs about the exposure to human health have not been adequately assessed. Toxicology issues associated with CNT inhalation, dermal toxicity, pulmonary, biodistribution, biocompatibility, blood compatibility, and elimination need to be addressed prior to their pharmacological application in humans.

Patients can be asked to keep diary records of PEF and inhaler use. However, such records may be constructed retrospectively by the patient just prior to going to the clinic. As the technology improves and then cost decreases, electronic inhaler and PEF monitoring devices will become more commonly available to assess compliance in the clinical setting.
