TFT display

This improved the handling in-situ distinctly. The visualisation is now perfomied by a flat-screen TFT-display, and the keyboard can be fixed as part of the device (Fig. 3). [Pg.753]

These efforts resulted in the first prototype of a 3-inch (7.5 cm diagonal) TFT display presented by Sharp in 1986. Because the manufacturing process of the TFT arrays is highly complex and expensive in terms of financial investment and human resources, the larger scale production of AM-LCD for use in notebook computers only started in 1989 [18]. [Pg.218]

In addition to above discussed applications, doped and undoped CPs also find extensive use in the other areas (Figure 1.66) like DSSCs, field-effect transistors (FETs), TFTs, display devices, catalysis, ECs, water purification, electroactive materials (electrorheological fluids, actuators, artificial muscles), tissue engineering scaffolds, memory devices, photocatalysis (degradation and synthesis), thermoelectric generation, electrochemical batteries, etc. [15,16,39,52,54,56,57,61,62,67,82,84,107,109, 112,113,149,153,162,169,240,244,309,314,387,401,422,423,446,514, 516,546,547,550,557,567-571], some of them will be elaborated in details in the following chapters. [Pg.78]

Compared to STN displays, active matrix addressing in TFTs allows enhanced sharpness and greater multiplexing. In TFT displays, each liquid crystal pixel is addressed by a transistor, which thus primarily governs the response of the device (Fig. 5.27). TFT displays have a greater number of pixels (higher resolution) and number of colour levels than STN devices. [Pg.263]

For the NB mode, intensity minima of the transmitted luminance are calculated for dAn=0.48 pm, 1,09 pm and 1.68 pm which correspond to the minima of the Gooch and Tarry transmitted intensity for a wavelength A=0.55 pm. Operation in the 1 st minimum is mostly used in TFT displays as it offers a wider viewing angle [15, 16]. The 2nd minimum condition is used in watches and calculators. [Pg.1182]

The ITO layers on both glass substrates are patterned to generate conductive areas in which the liquid crystal orientation can be modified by an applied electric field. These active areas are separated by nonconductive areas. Low information content displays for watches and calculators are typically addressed by the so-called direct-addressing method. Higher information content displays for PDAs, mobile telephones, laptops and monitors require matrix addressing. In TFT displays an active matrix is used to drive the pixels while in STN displays ad-... [Pg.1185]

A special thin-film transistor (TFT) display with rotated polarization is used for the ProViuOMirror. The polarization is oriented in such a way that the use of polarized sunglasses is possible (see Fig. 5). [Pg.442]

A TFT (thin film transistor) is one of the key components in TFT displays, which contain one transistor for each subpixel. This transistor is a field-effect... [Pg.769]
