Thermoplastics - long fiber-reinforced, textile-reinforced, woven mat-rein-forced or with local hybrid fiber reinforcement - will gain ground in the direction of large-scale production series and structural parts production. [Pg.430]

There is increasing interest in hose forms of construction as a route to manufacturing reinforced thermoplastic pipes (RTP) on a continuous production basis. The most widely used high pressure hoses are composite structures intended to create a flexible, tubular connection within high-pressure fluid systems. The pressure containment is achieved by incorporating textile fibres or steel wires which can carry high stresses whilst the elastomeric or plastic components essentially protect the fibre or wire structures and act as a seal against fluid permeation. [Pg.68]

The textile structure of fiber-reinforced plastics is built by woven fabrics (Chapter 4), knitwear (Chapter 5), nonwovens (Chapter 6), braids (Chapter 7), and two-dimensional reinforcing textiles of multiaxial structure (Chapter 8). For the matrix, both thermosets and thermoplastics are used. [Pg.312]

The fatigue behaviour of the woven fabric shows that this textile structure is sensitive to fatigue loading. This sensitivity is confirmed by testing thermoplastic matrix systems (polyamide 12, PA 12) reinforced with a glass fabric. A strong stiffness reduction, with a pronounced creep deformation was observed under tension-tension fatigue [24]. [Pg.167]

As a general rule, self-reinforced composites consist either of layers of highly-oriented thermoplastic textiles [4-7] or of a combination of self-reinforced textiles and a similar thermoplastic matrix material, which is added in the form of a film, powder or melt [1]. These are then hot-compacted to structurally consolidated mono-composites under pressure and temperature in a pressing process. For the most part, the fiber composite concept relies upon the embedding of stretched endless fibers or tapes made of PP into a chemically identical matrix. [Pg.721]
