Textile fibers elastomeric

Elastomeric fibers can be made out of natural rubber. Rubber latex, which is a suspension of rubber spheres in water, is mixed with a vulcanizing agent, and the mixture is wet spun. The fibers from the spinneret are extruded into a coagulating bath and then vulcanized to produce the cross-linking of chains. Such fibers are used in woven and knitted fabrics, and more often than not they are mixed with other textile fibers to form fabrics for garments. Most natural rubber fibers, however, have been supplanted by synthetic elastomeric fibers, especially in the area of athletic wear. This is attributable to the poor dyeability, abrasion resis-... [Pg.70]

We should mention that for textile fibers, there is an ASTM D2101 standard which allows fibers to be gripped direct because such fibers are generally not damaged by the clamp pressure. In general, the clamps are lined with rubber or elastomeric pads to reduce the friction. [Pg.245]

Acrylic ester homopolymers or statistical copolymers, whose annual world production is higher than 1 million tons, are used in the fields of paints in emulsion, adhesives, textile fiber processing, and paper industry. These applications are in close relationship with their glass transition temperature, which is relatively low. Poly(methyl acrylate) is much more stable against hydrolytic attack by acids and bases than its isomer poly(vinyl acetate). The poly(butyl acrylate) exhibits an elastomeric character which induces multiple applications. [Pg.548]

Typical end use applications include textiles and fibers, particularly as an anti-yellowing agent for elastomeric nylons (i.e., spandex or lycra). In addition, it can be used in polyolefin systems where fading or phenolic yellowing is known to occur. [Pg.118]

Rubber fibers are manufactured by several companies as rubber fiber or under trade names such as Buthane, Contro, Hi-Flex, Lactron, Lastex, and Eaton. Rubber fibers show good elastomeric properties and reasonable aesthetic properties particularly as the eore of a textile yarn structure. Rubber fibers usually have a dull luster due to the additives and fillers within the fiber. The fiber has poor resistance to household chemicals. [Pg.110]
