Testing procedures colorant evaluation

The degree of color change as compared with the original fabric and the Munsell color of the tested specimens were evaluated in the MacBeth SpectraLight, following previously explained procedures. Results are recorded in Tables VI and VII. 

In this chapter we describe many of the tests commonly used in our industry to evaluate the characteristics of colored thermoplastics parts, starting with colorant dispersion. The focus will be on the objectives of these tests, not specific ASTM or ISO procedures. References to specific test procedures will be given in the citations. 

Procedure to evaluate alkaline cooking properties of kg lots of maize. Kernels are placed in a perforated nylon bag, Ume cooked, steeped, washed and stone-ground into masa. The masa is formed into tortillas or tortilla pieces and cooked in a small-scale three-tier baking oven. Yields of tortillas are calculated from the original moisture content of the grain and the amount of tortillas obtained. Resulting tortillas can be used for texture, color, organoleptic, and shelf-life stabihty tests. 

The Berry spot test provides a rapid qualitative evaluation of urine. GAGs react with toluidine blue, a cationic dye, to yield a pink-colored compound. Alternative spot tests have been published but suffer from the same drawbacks regarding false-negative and false-positive specimens [2, 10, 15, 34]. Nevertheless, this fast procedure may pick up patients who have been referred to a laboratory for other metabolic examinations. For specific, initial MPS testing, the 1,9-dimethylene blue (DMB) assay, described below, is recommended. 

These specimens were evaluated for color change and assigned a Munsell color designation, following procedures outlined in previous tests. Results are recorded in Table IX, along with those of the pretreating test. 

Testing of contrast sensitivity is an additional screening procedure that may detect early macular dysfunction, particularly in patients younger than 40 years of age. Color vision should be evaluated with a color vision test designed to detect both mild blue-yellow and protan red-green deficiencies. Tests that meet these criteria are the Standard Pseudoisochromatic Plates Part 2 and the American Optical Hardy-Rand-Ritter. 

In order to test class identification based on multi-color native fluorescence we have measured LIF spectra for representative bio-agent simulants in solution for various classes of bio-molecules (i.e., toxins, viruses and bacteria) with a conventional laboratory set-up. For a proof-of-concept, the library of spectra was subjected to a mathematical procedure to extract and evaluate distinguishing features of the analytes. In a second step, the extracted distinguishing features were used to teach a multidimensional classifying... 

Two experimental procedures were carried out. In the first, a 100 1 (water and dye filtrate) dilution was concentrated to one-tenth its initial volume. Rejection based on color absorbance (HlO nm) and electrical conductivity, flux, pressure, temperature, and crossflow rate were measured at intervals during the concentration experiment. In the second, a slightly diluted dye filtrate (2 3) was used and the hyperfiltration at steady state was evaluated as in the first procedure. The test was repeated at dilutions reaching (100 1), with pH and temperature excursions at a dilution of 3 1.
