Temporary coating compositions

Typical of the temporary or manufacturing aid coating systems is the RISTON dry film photoresist for printed circuit (PC) board fabrication. This was the first of these systems developed. The RISTON product stmcture and the basic steps in its use are shown in Figure 2. It consists of a photopolymer sheet laminated between a Mylar cover sheet and a polyolefin separation sheet. It is manufactured as a continuous web (see Coating PROCESSES, survey), and is suppHed in roUs of varying width and photopolymer composition. [Pg.123]

At present these materials are too expensive to be considered as viable alternatives to the commodity plastics in packaging but they do have potential applications in biomedical products such as orthopaedic implants and even as temporary replacements for parts of the pericardium during open-heart surgery. In this kind of application, performance is much more important than cost. However, Biopol may be able to replace non-biodegradable polymers in paper coating which would then allow paper composite materials to biodegrade much more rapidly in compost and similar environments. [Pg.106]

Because of their favourable cost-performance ratio, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coated polyester (PET) fabric is the most common basic material used. It can be applied over the whole spectrum from small temporary to wide-span structures. With a top-coat that protects the PVC from soiling and early ageing, a life-span of up to 20-25 years can be obtained. PVC-PET composites are joined by high-frequency or hot wedge welding. With flame-retardant additives to the PVC coating, fire class B1 can be achieved. [Pg.131]
