Temperature methodology

Within FP-5 project FRAME work will be done to improve the assessment of the most important parameter used to measure the embrittlement conditions of the RPV. Currently this is done through indirect measurements in a rather conservative way (the so-called reference temperature methodology, which makes use of Charpy-V notch impact testing). It is difficult to estimate in a quantitative way the conservatism of this methodology. Therefore the work proposed will focus on the development of a method which allows to measure directly the fracture toughness. This should result in a better and more accurate estimation of the embrittlement conditions of the RPV material. [Pg.15]

Rupture discs are typically manufactured to order, where each order represents a lot. The ASME Code defines three mediods of acceptance testing for rupture discs. There have been a number of different synthetic approaches to substituted PTV derivatives proposed in the last decade. Almost all focus on the aromatic ring as the site for substitution. Some effort has been made to apply the traditional base-catalyzed dehydrohalogenation route to PTV and its substituted analogs. The methodology, however, is not as successful for PTV as it is for PPV and its derivatives because of the great tendency for the poly(u-chloro thiophene) precursor spontaneously to eliminate at room temperature. The synthesis employs a Fager condensation [124] in its initial step to yield diol 78. Treatment with a ditosylate yields a crown ether-functionalized thiophene diester 79. Beef slices (1.25 cm thick) were steam cooked to an internal temperature of 72°C and vacuum sealed in pouches to give a fill of 120 g. These pouches of beef were processed in a standard retort with complete water circulation and a superimposed air pressure of 1.7 X 105 Pa.
