He spent several years in another district that worked very well together and had very open communication in small pocket/market meetings with a group of stores in an area. I was elected as the leader for our group, and we discussed numerous ideas and climates in our market and ways to improve our teamwork as a whole. This allowed us to build more trust among stores and co-workers. 

Three months after the training 346 safety attitude questionnaires were administered. At the time of writing there have been 41 returns (response rate of 12 per cent). Insufficient data are eurrently available to allow statistically valid conclusions to be drawn. Interim analysis suggests no significant change in the climates of safety or teamwork. Preliminary data are displayed in Table 19.2.

Initial power ealeulations suggest fliat our ehoice of a 50 per eent improvement in teamwork and safety climates from the median values would require a sample size of 150 respondents before and after the training (p = 0.05) to aeeept the null hypothesis that there is no effeet with simulation-based team training. Creation of an appropriate transfer climate for teamwork is essential. 

Team functioning also affects perceptions of the value the organization places on patient safety, the climate around raising patient safety issues, and the likelihood of team members talking to one another about safety-related behavior. These perceptions, in turn, affect safety outcomes, so teamwork and treatment team relations have both direct and indirect effects on patient safety outcomes (level of safe behavior, injuries, and preventable adverse event reporting).
