Tangential distribution

For many particles, the diffuse-charge layer can be characterized adequately by the value of the zeta potential. For a spherical particle of radius / o which is large compared with the thickness of the diffuse-charge layer, an electric field uniform at a distance from the particle will produce a tangential electric field which varies with position on the particle. Laplace s equation [Eq. (22-22)] governs the distribution... 

These important results can be combined by superposition to compute the displacement for any arbitrary normal stress distribution applied to the free surface. Similar approaches can be taken for arbitrary tangential stress distributions. 

The distribution of velocity components (radial, tangential and axial) under conditions of mixing with baffles in comparison with the conditions of vortex formation is presented in Figure 12. The dashed lines in Figure 12 indicate non-baffled conditions. Comparison of the non-baffled and fully baffled velocity curves (solid line) leads to the following set of conclusions on vortex suppression when dealing with perfectly miscible liquids ...

One more feature of the field behavior is worth noting. Inasmuch as the layer has infinite extension in horizontal planes, the distribution of masses possesses axial symmetry with respect to any line parallel to the z-axis that passes through the observation point. For this reason, it is always possible to find two elementary masses such that the tangential component of the field caused by them is equal to zero. Respectively, the field due to all masses of the layer has only a normal component gz. 

For forming of apparent particle s motion in (circular helix) it is necessary to create in addition the tangential constituent of velocity Z - direction. We can create such conditions at the cost of distributed electrical field along Z - axle and then the particle in the submitted structure will move over circular helix.

Because the rotating motion of the gas in the cyclone separator arises from its tangential entry and no additional energy is imparted within the separator body, a free vortex is established. The energy per unit mass of gas is then independent of its radius of rotation and the velocity distribution in the gas may be calculated approximately by methods discussed in Volume 1, Chapter 2.
