Synthetic Co

Models for haemoglobin and myoglobin. It has been known for a long time that a range of synthetic Co(n) complexes are able to bind reversibly dioxygen in a manner related to the natural systems (Basolo, Hoffman Ibers, 1975 McLendon Martell, 1976). However, similar complexes of iron do not normally function as 02 carriers - rather oxidation to Fe(m)... [Pg.237]

The design of polydentate ligands containing imines has exercised many minds over many years, and imine formation is probably one of the commonest reactions in the synthetic co-ordination chemist s arsenal. Once again, the chelate effect plays an important role in stabilising the co-ordinated products and the majority of imine ligands contain other donor atoms that are also co-ordinated to the metal centre. The above brief discussion of imine formation will have shown that the formation of the imine from amine and carbonyl may be an intra- or intermolecular process. In many cases, the detailed mechanism of the imine formation reaction is not fully understood. In particular, it is not always clear whether the nucleophile is metal-co-ordinated amine or amide. Some intramolecular imine formation reactions at cobalt(m) are known to proceed through amido intermediates. A particularly useful intermediate (5.24) in metal-directed amino acid chemistry is... [Pg.114]

Comparison of trap designs for use with aggregation pheromone and synthetic co-attractant in a user-friendly attract and kill system to control Carpophilus spp. (Coleoptera Nitidulidae). Aust. J. Entomol., 46, 244-250. [Pg.473]

Starch-based biopolymers are lower cost materials than some other biodegradable polymer types such as synthetic co-polyesters and PLA. They are produced from relatively cheap agricultural feedstock and have simpler manufacturing processes compared with synthetic biopolymers. [Pg.59]

Synthetic Co,l C3,()4 0.25 nitrogen atmosphere, and then heated to boiling point. A mixture of KOH and KNO, was added dropwise within 70 min, and the boiling and mixing was continued for the next 1 h. After cooling to room temperature, the precipitate was washed with degassed water and dried under reduced pressure. [Pg.615]

The nitrito mode of binding was also observed in the Mn Mb—nitrite complex (Figure 64B) and quite unexpectedly in the d Co Mb-nitrite complex (Figure 64C). In synthetic Co porphyrin complexes, the nitro configuration has been observed in the ground state (200). [Pg.74]

A high content of dicarboxylic acid is the most characteristic feature of the composition of aliphatic components of suberin (231). The generation of dicarboxylic acids by oxidation of endogenous cu-hydroxy fatty acids has been demonstrated in cell-free preparations from the excised epidermis of Vida faba leaves (242). This dehydrogenase activity, which showed a strong preference for NADP, was located in the 100000-g supernatant. Modification of the substrate, o>-hydroxyhex-adecanoic acid, by removal or esterification of the carboxyl or incorporation of a hydroxyl moiety at C-10, rendered it a poor substrate. cu-Oxohexadecanoic acid could be trapped by dinitrophenylhydrazine, indicating that the oj-oxo acid was probably an intermediate in the reaction. Additionally, synthetic co-oxohex-adecanoic acid was converted to Cjg dicarboxylic acid by the enzyme preparation. [Pg.337]
