Zincke salts have played an important role in the synthesis of NAD /NADH coenzyme analogs since a 1937 report on the Zincke synthesis of dihydropyridine 7 for use in a redox titration study. The widely utilized nicotinamide-derived Zincke salt 8, first synthesized by Lettre was also used by Shifrin in 1965 for the preparation and study of NAD /NADH analogs. In 1972, Secrist reported using 8 for synthesis of simplified NAD analogs such as 10 for use in spectroscopic studies (Scheme 8.4.4). Subsequent utilization of 8 is discussed later in this article. [Pg.356]

Rubin recently disclosed the synthesis of ortho/meta-I DM 121 [74]. The molecule is formed by dimerization of deprotected 122, which in turn can be synthesized in a few steps and in sizable quantity [Eq. (5)]. The UCLA group was interested in zipping up polyacetylenic systems like 121 to prepare fullerenes (vide infra). Unfortunately, MALDl mass spectroscopic studies showed that 121... [Pg.120]

The existence of difluorochlorates of sodium, potassium, and barium was reported in 1965 by Mitra (19S). However, this claim was met by skepticism since the reported synthesis involved the use of 40% aqueous hydrofluoric acid. In a subsequent paper (J96), Mitra withdrew his claim. In 1969, Huggins and Fox reported (141,142) the synthesis of CSCIF2O2 from CsF and FCIO2, and a subsequent spectroscopic study by Christe and Curtis showed (54) that the vibrational spectrum of the adduct is consistent with a CIF202 anion of symmetry C2V... [Pg.359]

The tetraanionic [H2O Al3(/r-OH)(/r-OR)3]" [R = C(CH2C02)2C02] moiety has been achieved by the combination of (H20)9 Al(N03)3 with citric acid [101], with the synthesis establishing the existence of polynuclear complexes of a type previously postulated [102, 103], Al NMR spectroscopic studies have established that the tris(aluminium) cluster (Section 3.2.5) is not fluxional in D2O but instead retains three distinct metal environments over a wide pH range (3.0-9.0) with acid hydrolysis occurring below pH 3.0 and the resultant spectrum revealing the presence of [(H2O), (RO)Al3] and/or [(H20) (ROH) A13] " and also [(HjOlg Al] "" [101]. [Pg.81]

All the methods used to evaporate metals for atom synthesis were developed originally for the deposition of thin metal films. The more important of these techniques are shown schematically in Fig. la-d. Most of the evaporation devices can be scaled to give amounts of metal ranging from a few milligrams per hour for spectroscopic studies to 1-50 gm/hour for preparative synthetic purposes. Evaporation of metals from heated crucibles, boats, or wires (Fig. la-c) generally gives metal atoms in their ground electronic state. Electronic excitation of atoms is possible when metals are vaporized from arcs, by electron bombardment, or with a laser beam (Fig. Id). The lifetime of the excited states of... [Pg.55]
