Sweet grass

I have rituals. I pray daily. And every morning and every evening I burn and smudge sage or sweet-grass to purify myself and my home. Sage and sweet-grass are sacred to Indians. 

Helictotrichon (alpine oat grass) Hemarthria (joint grass) Hesperostipa (needle and thread) Heteropogon (tanglehead) Hierochloe (sweet grass)... 

Some suggested blends are cassia, clove and sandalwood cassia, frankincense, sandalwood and storax juniper twigs, sweet grass and white sage coriander seeds, frankincense, mastic and myrrh.

Styrax resinoid is a light grey to dark grey-brown viscous liquid that is prepared by solvent extraction. It has a sweet balsamic, slightly grass-like odor and is used in perfumery as a fixative. 

I don t suppose many love yellow star thistle except perhaps the bees attracted by its bright saffron-colored flowers or the honey lovers addicted to the bees sweet product. Most find this weed a nuisance and there is no easy way to remove it. It has taken me many years of burning, mowing, hoeing and replanting with perennial grasses, to restore the old pasture. Today it is full of purple needlegrass, blue wildrye, and California poppies, native species that used to blanket the valley before human activity and invasive weeds all but obliterated them.
