Surface treatment chemicals nickel plating

The relatively low abrasion and wear resistance of aluminum can be compensated by an appropriate surface treatment so that sufficient life times can be achieved. Hard anodizing, chemical nickel plating, chrome plating, and special chemical coatings, which facilitate demolding, have proven their worth. 

Modification of cotton textiles by chemical plating of their surfaces with cobalt (II) or nickel (II) salts produced metallized fibers and fabrics with high electrical conductivity and the capability to transport and dissipate thermal energy (109). The heat capacity of cellulose acetate fibers was increased by treatment with epoxy compounds (110). 

Electroless plating. Electroless plating is a siuface treatment process that does not require electric current, as does electrolytic plating. Electroless plating deposits a dissolved metal, such as copper or nickel, on the surface of a plastic part through the use of a chemical solution (Fig. 9.34a). Also, any plastic part to be plated mth the electrolytic process must first be electroless plated to create a conductive surface.
