Supramolecular, generally chemistry

The general chemistry used in this approach involves the combination of a limited amount of an amine-terminated dendrimer core reagent with an excess of carboxylic acid terminated dendrimer shell reagent [31]. These two charge differentiated species are allowed to self-assemble into the electrostatically driven supramolecular core-shell tecto(dendrimer) architecture. After equilibration, covalent bond formation at these charge neutralized dendrimer contact sites is induced with carbodiimide reagents (Scheme 1). [Pg.620]

Because of limited space, this chapter covers porphyrins and expanded porphyrins as receptors through mostly non-covalent or supramolecular interactions. As a general rule, examples wherein the porphyrin acts as a receptor via metal coordination are excluded. For a further reading on this latter topic, the reader is referred to a recent Chemistry Review article entitled Supramolecular Chemistry of Metallopor-phyrins. On the other hand, inspired by a recent review by Anslyn entitled Supramolecular Analytical Chemistry, we expand our definition of receptor-substrate interactions to include certain boronic acid binding motifs and several representative examples of metalated porphyrins that are applied to sensing applications, wherein the proposed mode involves metal complexation. Thus, included in this chapter is a brief summary of the seminal work carried out by Suslick and his group, where porphyrins are used to create the so-called artificial nose, that is, an array-based sensing device for various vapors. Also included are... [Pg.1018]

In general, we have not attempted to review aU the work relating to specific terms instead we have tried to confine our discussions to issues that we feel are relevant to nomenclature. It is inevitable in such discussions that terms would be used that are defined elsewhere in the text—in such cases, we have italicized the terms. We have not included the nomenclature of graph sets since this volume already contains a comprehensive chapter on the field (see Network and Graph Set Analysis, Supramolecular Materials Chemistry). [Pg.2171]

Supramolecular Materials Chemistry). Supramolecular isomerism is related to polymorphism in that, in both cases, the chemical constituents of two or more crystalline substances are identical. Indeed, polymorphs may generally be regarded as being supramolecular isomers of one another, although the reverse is not always true." Polymorphism of molecular crystals, in particular, remains an important phenomenon, especially in pharmaceuticals. However, although reports of polymorphs have increased significantly... [Pg.2434]

The set of factors affecting these interactions have not been fully clarified and generalized for some fundamental properties. Thus, it is necessary to go more deeply into the problem by developing theoretical models. This will allow us to identify the different factors that allow the existence of the interactions described above. Naturally, we think that the results of these theoretical studies will help to understand the supramolecular inorganic chemistry, where the description of metal-metal interactions via ligands and metal-ligand interactions may provide answers to... [Pg.147]

Widening the perspectives, one may consider that the science of flve-dimensional supramolecular materials in general and supramolecular polymer chemistry in particular, as part of dynamic constitutional chemistry [4], will strongly contribute to the emergence and development of adaptive chemistry [47] on the way toward complex matter. [Pg.34]

The outlook of supramolecular chemistry is towards a general science of informed matter, bringing forward in chemistry the third component of the basic trilogy matter-energy-information. [Pg.2]

In the present volume, our intention was to cover several modern approaches to phosphorus chemistry which were not, or at least not completely, covered in the previous volumes. The selected topics are expected to have broader relevance and to be interesting to a more general readership, since key aspects of phosphorus chemistry are pointed out. Indeed, several fields are investigated coordination chemistry, catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, biochemistry, hybrid organic-inorganic materials, new ambiphilic ligands, and biology. [Pg.273]

If the utilization of weak noncovalent interactions leading to molecular aggregations is a general principle in supramolecular chemistry, and periodicity is a general prerequisite in the crystalline state, then periodically distributed noncovalent interactions constitute the basis of molecular crystal engineering [1]. In other words, molecular crystal engineering can be considered as supramolecular solid-state chemistry, again based on weak noncovalent interactions. [Pg.1]
