Summary Assessment

Many of the most significant patenting regions (e.g. Japan, the USA and Europe) are also signatories of the International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). This allows for an initial review of the patent application to be undertaken by a single patent office. The office then provides a summary assessment of this application, which provides an indication of the likely response that would be obtained from individual PCT countries. For many, this initial assessment plays a major role in deciding whether to proceed with the patent application in individual countries. 

For example, the benefit of a cleaner environment was not examined and, moreover, would be very difficult to measure. However, an objective of this study is to contribute to the on-going process of evaluation of costs versus benefits of governmental regulation of business. Hence, the following is a summary assessment of the costs versus benefits of environmental research in the chemical industry.

The FDA is proposing to amend its labeling regulations and require that a summary assessment of the risks of using a product during pregnancy and lactation be included. This summary would enable a wider discussion of the animal and any human data available.

Both intensity and length of exposure play important roles in determining the extent of inhibition of NTE in lymphocytes 50% of preexposed values of NTE activity were obtained when measured 3 or 4 weeks after the beginning of DEF exposure. However, there is no direct evidence of a correlation between a high level of lymphocyte NTE inhibition and development of neuropathy in humans. Blood acetylcholinesterase and plasma butyrylcholinesterase levels remained unchanged during the study period. There is no available weight-of-the-evidence summary assessment for DEF as a developmental or reproductive toxin. 

Isoprostanes are the end breakdown products of lipid peroxidation, and urinary levels have been used to assess the level of oxidative stress. It is thought that oxidation of LDL is essential for the development of atherosclerosis and that HDL and other antioxidants work by antagonizing this oxidative stress. Urinary isoprostanes give one some summary assessment of this critical process. The most common ones measured are Fj-isoprostanes, but there are a large number of potential ones to measure. It does appear that they will eventually be helpful in assessing oxidative stress. 

The recent study by Bradbury and Ohse (28) extends measurements to 2219 K and 9.5 x 10 atm, connecting smoothly to earlier, lower-temperature data. The second-law and third-law heats of vaporization of 82.25 and 81.66 kcal/mol, respectively, are in quite good agreement with the summary assessment in Ref. 19. 

The Green Screen list of hazards most closely tracks the hazards incorporated into the US ERA Design for Environment (DfE) Program s summary assessment of alternatives to the brominated flame retardant, pentaBDE. Table 2 lists the hazards included in both the US ERA DfE program s summary assessment of pentaBDE alternatives and the Green Screen. For definitions of the hazards in Table 2 see Appendix 1. 

A weakness of the SRC report is that it did not explain how the estimated levels of concern for BPADP (CAS 181028-79-5) and RDP (CAS 125997-21-9) were derived (see Appendix 4). In the text of the report, SRC provided detailed chemical hazard reviews on each of the three chemical constituents of BPADP and RDP, which included some data for the formulated products. They summarized that data into short summary assessments. However, SRC did not provide similar assessments for the formulated products BPADP (CAS ... 

At the third stage summary assessment of A SW verification and validation was formulated. 

Incoming hazardous substances must be accompanied by a delivery docket that adequately identifies them by an MSDS if one has not been previously supplied and by any additional documentation on toxicological testing of the substance. If the purchaser requests it, the OECD new chentical summary assessment report - if one has been prepared - must be supplied, in some jurisdictions.
