Sulfonated polystyrene, role

Even in solution the relative rigidity of the polymer support can play a significant role in the reactivity of attached functional groups. Contrasting studies conducted with chloromethylated derivatives of poly(arylene ether sulfone) (Tg 175°C), phenoxy resin (Tg= 65°C) and polystyrene (Tg= 105°C) allow evaluation of chain rigidity effects. We have shown that the rates of quaternization of chloromethylated poly(arylene ether sulfones) and phenoxy resin deviate from the anticipated second order process at... [Pg.7]

Before ending this section, the current density-voltage-luminance characteristics of two PLEDs using Ag/Ca (solid symbol) and Ag/Al/CsF (open symbol) as a cathode, respectively, with 40 nm of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) polystyrene sulfonate) (PSS) as a polymer anode and 100 nm of F8BTas a green-emitting layer are depicted in Fig. 5.16. The thickness of the Ca, CsF, A1 and Ag layers is 50, 5, 80 and 100 nm, respectively. The Al/CsF instead of Cs was used as the cathode since the role of A1 on CsF is known to release Cs into the polymer [80], It can be seen that the Ca device shows much larger current density than the CsF/Al device, in contrast to the common belief that the lower work function of... [Pg.196]

A new type of amphiphihc polymer blend comprising polystyrene (PS), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), and microspheres of cross-hnked polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSA) was prepared by solution blending and followed by casting. The ir and the differential scanning calorimetry (dsc) studies showed that besides providing protons, PSSA plays a role in enhancing the miscibility of PS and PEO. The influence of the mixing extent between PS and PEO on the proton conductivity has also been studied (162). [Pg.7987]

Using the proposed equations, for the sulfonated polyphenyleneoxide and polystyrene, the weight fraction of interfacial material in 50/50 mixture was found to be 0.4-0.6, depending on composition. Despite some possible errors, such a treatment may have importance, not only for amorphous mixtures, but for filled mixtures and other systems where the interface plays an important role and the only data available are DSC thermograms. [Pg.283]
