Sudan blue

Sudan II (Sudan Blue, Solvent Blue 35, l,4-bis-(butylamino)-9,10-anthraquinone) [17354-14-2] M 350.5, m 122°, Xmax 604, 652nm, pKj st 9.5 (OH). It is formed from quinizarin (2g see [81-64-1]), 33% EtOH/w-BuNH2 (20ml) and Na2S204 (2g) at 140°/8 hours, evaporate, extract with toluene, chromatograph (AI2O3), the intense blue band in toluene is evaporated, and the residue gave purple needles (Cu lustre) from petroleum ether (b 60-80°) (l.lg, 38%) [Peters Walker JC/zewz Soc 1429 1956, Beilstein 14 IV 460], It forms Cu and Ni salts. [Pg.381]

Lymphatic uptake of the lipid soluble dye Sudan blue and Vitamin A acetate from triolein-in-water emulsions requires the presence of both bile salts and phosphatidylcholine [237]. However, the overall contribution of lymphatic uptake for these two solutes is very small. In the absence of sodium taurocholate in rats with bile hstulae the administration of 20 ml polysorbate 80 did not stimulate lymphatic transport, although absorption from a 4 % polysorbate 80 solution is equivalent to that for the triolein emulsions in intact amounts, but slightly more rapid. [Pg.546]

Two layers are formed on mixing. A few crystals of CUSO4 5 H2O are now added and the mixture stirred well. The flask is closed with a stopper and left to stand for several hours. The supernatant liquid is decanted off, the solution filtered and placed in the measuring cylinder. A few mL of xylene (previously been colored with Sudan III dye) are added. This deep red liquid forms the upper phase below it is the colorless methanol phase and at the bottom the aqueous phase which is colored blue by the copper sulfate. The measuring cylinder is closed with a cork stopper and sealed with paraffin. The mixture remains stable for several years. Prior to each demonstration the liquid is shaken thoroughly the cylinder is placed in front of a white background and the red, white and blue cocktail effect presented. [Pg.177]
