Subsurface migration

Solution porosity refers to voids formed by the solution of the more soluble portions of the rock in the presence of subsurface migrating (or surface percolating) waters containing carbonic and other organic acids. Solution porosity is also called vugularporosity where individual holes are called vugs. [Pg.258]

The solution was applied to the surface of cold-rolled steel, dip-galvanized steel sheet, and aluminum strip for degreasing and passivating in a single operation at 40°C for 90 s. The surfaces were then lacquered (85-100 pm thickness) and tested in a salt-spray test for 480 h without showing subsurface migration and blistering. The method is especially useful in the automobile industry for coated sheet [191]. [Pg.604]

The problems associated with LNAPLs are well documented in the literature, ranging from small releases where just enough LNAPL is present to be a nuisance, to pools ranging up to millions of barrels of LNAPL and encompassing hundreds of acres in lateral extent. Subsurface migration of LNAPL (and DNAPL) are affected by several mechanisms depending upon the vapor pressure of the liquid, the density of the liquid, the solubility of the liquid (how much dissolves in water at equilibrium), and the polar nature of the NAPL. [Pg.153]

Surface-to-subsurface migrations in bimetallic NPs can completely change the surface composition and drastically alter catalytic performance. Despite the importance of atomic mobility in bimetallic systems, little is known about the dynamic processes of NPs and clusters due, in large part, to the lack of suitable experimental techniques. [Pg.61]

In addition to the above studies, radiochemical analyses were performed on water which flowed into the experimental trench during its construction. Initial radionuclide concentrations in the water were comparable to those in water from waste trench 27 (Table I), indicating that subsurface migration of radionuclides has occurred over short distances on site at Maxey Flats. When the experimental trench was resampled later, the radionuclide concentrations were much lower, perhaps because the trench design perturbed the migration of radionuclides. Consequently, we installed and sampled a series of inert atmosphere wells around the experimental trench. [Pg.249]

HIOC) An organic compound that is capable of ionizing, depending upon the solution pH. Upon ionization the properties of the molecule change and its sorption and subsurface migration (in the environment) vary accordingly. [Pg.377]

The other salient point of the interaction of 02 with stepped Ag surfaces is the direct observation of the subsurface migration mechanism, witnessed by the disappearence of the loss at 56meV in the HREEL spectra of 0/Ag(2 1 0) [97]. This vibration is ascribed to the metastable occupation by oxygen atoms of the tetrahedral interstitials, where the O/Ag mode can still be efficiently excited by HREELS. When heating the crystal to 300 K the loss disappears because the oxygen atoms move to the octahedral interstitials, which are too deep and well screened to be monitored by low energy electrons. [Pg.243]
