SUBJECTS galls

When two metals in intimate contact are subjected to vibration, a dark powder forms at the areas of contact. The effect is referred to as fretting corrosion though it is due to wear rather than true corrosive attack. The galling effect between nickel and steel ensures good resistance to fretting corrosion and lubricated nickel against steel is a very satisfactory combination used widely in industry for components assembled by press-fitting. [Pg.534]

Lastly, a portion of the infusion of galls was. subjected, to eontinned ebullition, by which meaos part of its contents became iosoluble the menstruum was filtered, and sulphate of iron added to. the filtrate, pro.-ducing a good and permanent ink. [Pg.375]

Guide Guides the stem in order to have a perfect and uniform alignment to transmit the spring force on the disc. It is a very critical component for the correct operation of the SRV and also a vulnerable one because it is easily subject to galling, corrosion and so forth. [Pg.99]

The exposures used in the kinetic experiments on volunteers encompass the blood concentrations of MTBE found in a number of occupationally exposed and consumer subject studies, as described below e.g., 0.2-37.0 pg/L) in Alaska [34] and < 0.05-37 pg/L in Connecticut [29]. A special situation is that of patients undergoing gall-bladder perfusion with MTBE for the dissolution of stones, where blood concentrations were about 1000-fold higher than those in workers exposed by inhalation [33]. [Pg.336]

These specifications allow the use of threaded and socket-welded connections in steel and stainless steel in sizes up to 50 mm. However, butt-welding and flanged joints are preferred in all sizes. Stainless steel and nickel threads, in particular, are subject to galling. [Pg.954]

A layer of thick, protective, strongly cohesive oxide film can be formed on zirconium by a patented process developed at TWV. In this process, a zirconium subject is treated in fused sodium cyanide containing 1-3% sodium carbonate, or in a eutectic mixture of sodium and potassium chlorides with 5% sodium carbonate. Treatment is carried out at temperature ranging from 600 to 800°C for up to 50 h. A treatment time of several hours typically is used. The thickness of oxide film formed in the fused salt bath ranges from 20 to 30 gm. This film has greatly improved resistance to abrasion and galling over thick oxide films grown by many other means. [Pg.602]

Applications and Properties. The most common application area for TRD-processed steels is that of forming tools subjected to high wear and galling problems. Table 27 lists typical applications. [Pg.176]
