The General Subject Index links subject terms, such as reactions, processes and equipment, classes of substances, and biochemical and biological subjects, including plant and animal species, with their corresponding CA abstract numbers. [Pg.4]

Other abstract and index journals. Subject indexes in British Abstracts and Chemi-sches Zentralblatt subject indexes in physical science and engineering subject indexes in biology, agriculture, and medicine. [Pg.32]

The present index volume largely follows the model used successfully for the Methods in Enzymology series published by Academic Press, and the cumulative subject index has been compiled directly from subject indexes in the individual volumes. It is recognized that a lack of total uniformity is inevitable as a consequence of unevenness in some of the indexes, and most importantly, from the progress that has been made toward imiformity in carbohydrate nomenclature. Current nomenclature recommendations are recorded in the 1996 document Nomenclature of Carbohydrates, issued by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which has been published in Volume 52 of Advances in Carbohydrate Chemistry and Biochemistry. [Pg.549]

French Cultural Services in New York, French Doctoral Theses, Science, 1951-1953 (1955). An issue of the French Bibliographical Digest (No. 1, series 111) prepared and distributed as a ide to advanced researchers. Covers biology, botany, biochemistry, logic and philosophy of science, hygiene, etc. Subject index is included. French Doctoral Theses—Pharmacy and Medicine, 1951-1954 is also available. [Pg.113]

The monthly Inhaltsverzeichnisse sowjetischer Fachliteratur is another example of East German abstracting services, appearing in several subject series since 1953 (Reihe III/B covers chemistry and biology). Each monthly issue abstracts totally, in German, well over 20 top Soviet chemical and biological journals (the list of these titles remains standard) published not more than 4 months before. Annual subject and author indexes to Inhaltsverzeichnisse are usually available within a year—which is sometimes earlier than the appearance of the subject indexes of the original Russian journals. [Pg.139]

The American Association of Cereal Chemists appointed an Abstract Committee to study the problem of abstracts and indexes. Upon the recommendation of the committee, arrangements were made with Biological Abstracts (14 ) to publish a separate section. Section J, Abstracts of Cereals and Cereal Products. This has been published since 1948. Financial support is given by the AACC and the Millers National Federation (12). It is too early to evaluate Section J as a tool. Since it is part of so huge a service it cannot hope to attain the position of a current review-type service. There are no plans for separate indexing the index to the complete edition is included with each section subscription. The December 1951 issue has a Numerical Key to Contents of Section J. The latest subject index to Biological Abstracts is Volume 23, 1949. However, future editorial policy may improve this situation. [Pg.253]

Biological Abstracts (University of Pennsylvania) contains much of chemical and biochemical interest, and publishes approximately 100,000 informative abstracts annually in semimonthly issues, each of which has an author index which cumulates in the last issue of each volume, and a guide to new books and periodicals. Each issue also has a subject index based on keywords in the titles of articles and arranged in alphabetical sequence by computer. This is supplemented by the classified arrangement of the material and a detailed table of contents. The computer-composed subject index cumulates each quarter. Specialized parts are also issued separately. [Pg.89]
